It’s not a niche opinion that Instagram is considered harmful for a person’s health. Products that are considered harmful to health need extra scrutiny when children are involved.

My experience- I had my first kid when I was totally broke. Working multiple minimum wage jobs. Everything was thrift store, hand-me-down, government assistance. Instead of child care, I worked every day and night so our kids could be with

The board gets screen shared. So I could do look on my phone if I wanted. But I don’t find it necessary. I have the inverse question. How would you not be able to do standup while walking (given that you’re able-bodied)? Are you not prepare

Say I do accept this analogy. For some people, getting a free piano would be life-changing. Composers, Song Writers, aspiring musicians... Some people would look at a free piano as “that would be nice to have because it’s free”. Clunky free

Yep. And it’s important to note that advances in software/DSP are not isolated from the hardware synthesis world. There is a lot of innovation in digital modules happening right now. The hardware is simply an interface. The preferred i

I picked it up at a thrift store, and that’s why I started a deep dive into modular synths. I almost forgot I was reading the article from a hacker news link, and not just from my own searching!

Glad to hear this sentiment. I have a 5U modular system I built long before I had kids. I’ll start a patch, then have my 8-year old start messing with it, enjoy the sound, then talk through what is being changed.

On the logistics business side, I’ll admit that my knowledge is from the day-to-day and don’t read a lot outside of work. Our company does have plenty of marketing material of course: https://www.chrobinson.com/en-us/ab

I’m a software engineer at one of these global logistics companies. The market is extremely competitive. We are one of the biggest in the business, and we only capture small percent (I heard 3% before) of market share. We build event driven

Sure thing. I also like walking during meetings where I don’t need to reference information on a computer. 1-on-1s, certain design discussions, etc.

I worked as a recording engineer for several years. The first studio I worked at, the B room had an SSL 6000 G Series and a Pro Tools 888 system hooked up to an Apple machine running OS9. This was 2008, so already old back then, but with th

Meh. I read the article, and I agree with it. But that is not what you are saying. Don’t use it for relational data. Don’t use it as your primary data store. At the enterprise I work at, I’ve had success delivering features where data scien

I actually felt like I learned a lot. Not so much technical stuff, but more about how intentional the community is designed. It made me feel proud to be part of a group that is all about empowering the people that need it most. People that

If it’s long and dense material, I print it. Especially if I’m taking notes. Double-sided, three-ring hole punch, put in a binder. If it’s not worth going through that effort, then I either don’t read it or I’m scanning it for information.

For those that are not afraid of using a DSL to generate scores, Lilypond is great. Much like using graphviz to generate workflows, you can just hop in an editor and start typing out your score, creating reusable chunks along the way. There

For a side project? I think that makes a difference here. What I’ve been doing lately, in my own time outside of work, is setting up a postgres DB, pointing postgraphile to it, then I have the API out of the way. From there, if I’m consumin
