This is an important discussion to have. The fact that this and another article about Harvard race-based admissions yesterday were both insta-flagged suggest that many don’t even want us to have the conversation.

This seems to be all the rage right now but there is a significant risk of CTE with BJJ. Concussions are normalized to an alarming degree among all BJJ practitioners I’ve spoken with.

This is great. “Yes” shouldn’t be case sensitive though.

Who cares? Redditors are really too much. Hoping that everything has a good resolution only because I don’t want Redditors fleeing to other sites that are (blissfully) free of their “culture”. Already have seen an unfortunate influx of them

Same political sleight of hand being done in America. “We can’t do anything about the homeless population but look, we banned gas engines!”

This is untrue. Even the smallest subreddits are beholden to Reddit’s ever changing “rules”.

Eloquently put. The last time I was on the market I didn’t apply to a single company that didn’t list salary - every time I’ve done that their pitch was underwhelming. To those saying “there’s more than salary” - that’s a privileged take. I

This is a real “drink the kool aid” take.

There are no security implications other than those brought by the user. Freeze and host your own copies of libraries in an overlay (or write your own). The developer chooses which packages to use and from where, VERY explicitly and with a

Should? By whose standard? Also nix does have some autocomplete, check out Nil…

What is confusing about finding Nix packages? Just go to search.nixos.org There has been a trend in software dev towards solving problems that don’t need solved. I’ve never been confused about how to find packages for nix.

I saw it - incredible to see cracks begin to emerge in the former titans of the industry. FAANG will go the way of Cisco, Motorola, et al.

This is a state that can’t even help its homeless. The hubris of California politicians truly knows no bounds.

This isn’t a “weird” dynamic anymore. Have you been to Baltimore lately? Los Angeles? They are third world.

Bad take. NOT being able to speak about this publicly is precisely what got us here in the first place. We NEED to start expressing that we’re not okay with this before anything will change. Your comment reeks of “stop whining, I didn’t eve

If there’s an accident between an F150 and a Prius I’d rather my family be in the F150. The premise of OPs video is nice but it’s utopian. Once only mid size sedans are on the road, I’ll drive my family around in one. Until then, I’ll keep

The less-comfortable reason is that concern for others’ wellbeing is at an all time low. I regularly see outright aggressive driving, ESPECIALLY when I’m in California. People are stressed and they are taking it out on strangers.

Seems exploitative - Angelinos aren't hurting for work right now, they're hurting for a paycheck. I'd like to see some kind of compensation model.

I wonder if this correlates to the resolution and frequency of social media use globally. I might be completely happy with my apartment and job in the EU, but seeing 'ads' for the US on social media every day may begin to chip awa

I deal with this occasionally (seems to crop up for me every couple of years depending on life circumstances). Look into sleep restriction therapy. It's been the "silver bullet" for me. You essentially limit yourself to a 5 h

PhD in Multimedia Art here. I transitioned during the degree into web dev. While I don't regret getting the PhD I wouldn't recommend the process to anyone. Funding is lean so you'll be taking a vow of poverty for 4-6 years. O

Some similar experience in my own PhD journey. I think two things are likely the cause: - Academia attracts sociopaths - Academia is slowly imploding, thus resources are becoming more scarce, thus folks are bitter. Hang in there and gtfo of

I would call it quasi social media. The relative anonymity of HN (I don’t know any of you IRL) helps me view this more like IRC chat from the late 90s
