Do you dislike global menus just because it reminds you of a Mac? Is it actually a bad thing, and why? Have you ever tried actually using Unity for more than a few days? I understand that old habits stay strong, but sometimes breaking out o

A lot of people still use a yahoo email. I suppose when they first got their email, it was supposedly better than hotmail (gmail hasn't even come out yet), and they haven't bothered to change since because, really, it's good enough . Yahoo

Is there any widespread stigma surrounding the lower-ranks (academic/intellectual ability, etc), or is the system just widely acknowledged as simply some sort of salary structure?

@ your second question, the article notes that "Without communicating with the field’s experts, Zhang started thinking about the problem", so maybe he just worked on it in his free time? Not that it means he hasn't published much, but there

Edit: Admittedly only skimmed the article, let alone the paper. Obviously there are an infinite number of primes and we've proved that ages ago. Do not read this comment, read the replies if you want a more accurate answer. Leaving it here

Also, he's Japanese and Nelson thinks Nakamoto is actually Japanese because everyone who says he isn't Japanese is falling for committing "ethnocentric cluckery". Dumb indeed.

What's HN's opinions on Nelson himself? Barring this article, I've mostly read about his ideas about Xanadu, etc, and while they're not bad per se, they seem rather unfocused and on the whole rather vague -- almost like, engineering/techn

I realised that on HN it's quite acceptable to do this (although normally posts from the past would be prepended/appended with a (YEAR). I believe the reasoning is that not everyone has seen these articles, and as they are more than just ne

Very cluttered UI, but then again many other IDEs come close, no? Still quite bad though... I don't think startup time or even close-time are particularly important. If you're using an IDE, you shouldn't expect to open it up and close it ti

Same here. Well, it can't be any-old tiling mechanism, but nonetheless I'd be willing to try. Currently use awesome, though, which by and large is quite good. Do you use a tiling UI right now? I do somehow prefer a more "mainstream" UI thou

As you said, inflation occurs when the money supply goes up, and dangerously so if it happens for no good reason (in your example). I suppose it is not in the interest of banks to have hyperinflation either?

Nice note about the meat-orientated culture. To add to that, though, historically (and I find this, as you pointed out, a mostly Western thing, since coming from a southern Chinese culture I know that meats aren't elevated above other foods
