How so? That sounds a completely realistic use of NotebookLM.

For me it's an additional tool, not the only tool. LSPs are still better for half of the things I do daily (renaming things, extracting things, finding symbols, etc.). I can't imagine using AI for everything and even meeting my cu

I got my friends to install Element and use that to message me instead of Gchat/WhatsApp. They’re all quite tech savvy and have varying degrees of privacy consciousness. I also got my partner to switch to it. She’s not a super nerd lik

Cool! I’ve recently consolidated all of my Google Chat and WhatsApp friends onto Matrix (via Element) because it’s E2EE. Gchat isn’t and I assume that Meta has a backdoor into WhatsApp conversations. So, those platforms can’t be trusted. Si

I don’t think it’s that we _can’t_ accurately measure developer value/productivity, it’s that doing so isn’t feasible with any methodology we currently have. As you said, we’re not doing magic, therefore our value is measurable. Measur

Framework 13 (AMD). It’s not even a question. I’ve had mine for a year and it’s the best laptop I’ve ever owned.

Hi Nirav! I don't have a question but I just wanted to say I'm a superfan of Framework. I love my AMD 13! I'm as cynical as it gets when it comes to tech companies, but Framework is the only one that seems to be on track to a

I’m not really interested in converting the normies. It’s just not worth the effort. People are free to do what they want. My point is simply that we have better options and we’re free to choose them.

This has been my experience after largely leaving social media. I’m much happier with less noise and nonsense in my life. It’s been a significant net benefit.

It does not appear that Hasura is fully open source. I'd much rather use Directus, as I don't consider closed source solutions viable.

Or we could just live without so much sharing and communication. We did it before social media and we were arguably better off. Why is it necessary to be so “closely” connected to so many people? Aren’t the people in our more immediate orbi

Off the top of my head: It surfaces only useless GraphQL error messages to the front end, it’s very frustrating to stand up custom REST endpoints, and the Flow system is painful to develop with and debug. Others on my team have different gr

Directus has its small-scale and short term benefits, but I can’t recommend building a production-grade app with it. My company uses Directus and we all hate it and are desperately trying to get away from it. Avoid.

I’m not sure that they do, and that’s why I switched back to Vim from Zed. I can’t let myself build a skillset on a company’s product that’s liable to disappear in a few years.

A whole bunch of problems go away, but so do a whole bunch of solutions for people who might need them. Disadvantaged people deserve a chance to have solutions to their problems too. If we want a society that’s worth being a part of, we’d d

This is missing the point. Shouldn't software generally work well for the people who use it? Or are we really just saying out loud that we build software for our own enrichment and the users are just a means to that end?

Is this the world we want to live in? Reserving good things for the already advantaged? Wouldn’t life be a little better if we considered the needs of people a bit less lucky than ourselves?
