Maybe I'm being too nice, but I'm willing to give the NYT a little benefit of the doubt that this might just have been a single journalist embellishing a story for publicity, as has been known to happen both there and at so many other publi

Incredible building regulations. Trying to build anything in SF is a giant clusterfuck. Propose anything over 4 stories outside of Fidi/SOMA? People will complain that its "blocking light" or "out of character", or that it blocks their lega

I started on my TI-83+ and then later moved up to a TI-89, which was great for wannabe programmers because you could easily write programs in C (using TIGCC) instead of having to deal with the limitations of TI-BASIC.

Not mentioned: RethinkDB doesn't yet support secondary and compound indexes, which is a dealbreaker for a lot of setups Definitely looks interesting though, and I look forward to playing around with it at some point.

I believe most of the optimism from that quarter came from the improving margins, which something AMZN hasn't always done a good job with.

That chart takes away inflation. When people say the expect 7%/year they are not including inflation. 7% a year pre inflation and taxes is likely roughtly 3.5-4%, which is grey on that chart.

San Mateo County opted out of the initial BART system in 1961 though, and is still not a member of the BART district, which is why trips to/from San Mateo county are charged more. http://www.flickr.com/photos/walkingsf/5427069831/in/photos

Its a private university, but they (like most research universities in the US) get a lot of federal research funding. As an alum, no idea what to thing about this ruling.

Where are you getting those numbers? Not saying you're wrong, just curious. A quick look online shows ~18k federal, ~6k CA, and ~6K SS + medicare, which is 30%ish

I live in SF and I have no issue with landlords evicting tenants who were being AirBnB hosts. Realize that: 1) The housing market in SF is crazy right now (obviously this is hardly their fault) 2) There are thousands of available AirBnB roo
