This is not entirely true. When you short sale you are still essentially selling shares (although you don't own them). Someone else is still buying these at the price you sold for. If enough people short a stock it will act as heavy sell pr

For some reason, people seem to think it's a key-value store, or some persistent database, but that's totally not it at all. From what I understand, it is actually a key-value store and is basically a superset of memcached. Therefore, if

I feel like this article takes a very pessimistic view. To be great or have success in any field, doing anything, you are going to be up against "bad odds". If the odds of success were in everyone's favor then it wouldn't be "success" anymo

I don't think this is indicative of the future of HTML5 and I'm not so sure there will be a reason to use these SWF->HTML5 converters other than maybe a head start on re-developing your application. Have you tried converting a PDF to wo

Flash was built to fill a gaping hole in the market. I think that hole is just about filled (or will be post HTML 5) for the majority of use cases. I see flash falling into smaller niche-based use cases in the near future.

It'll be interesting to see how well the various Flash->HTML 5 convertors will complete the job. I'm a little skeptical that it'll be much more like scaffolding than a full-on conversion but I haven't personally tried it yet. I have, ho

I think you are on track for an interesting idea but forcing training is certainly not the way to do it. I hate doing training in any software. UI/UX is all about keeping things intuitive/similar so new users pick it up with ease so there i

I had signed up for a separate account in order to get access to their API (you have to have an MCC account to use the API which requires you to create a new account - ridiculous IMO). They make outbound calls to new accounts to assist in s

Everyone knows that GoDaddy isn't a great company (including the small business owners that use them) I have had previous employers force me to move us off of GMail to GoDaddy email because they thought "Gmail sucks". People also continue

If you isolate GoDaddy as a domain registrar then I would be likely to agree. However, I have been forced to work with hundreds of people that use GoDaddy hosting for instance which is certainly not standardized. GoDaddy has thousands of pr

GoDaddy is the armpit of the tech industry. It preys on uneducated users (generally "business" people), sells with sex, and offers mediocre products at best - and even that is quite liberal. It just goes to show you how important marketing

This whole idea makes doing business with either company difficult and very risky IMO. I have used Google Adwords for years and got a permanent ban one day out of the blue - no emails, nothing. I finally got in contact with an AdWords rep t

Congrats on getting funded. Even if it doesn't change your day to day it is an excellent milestone. Where did you post your open positions?

Tell me if I have this straight: this pattern basically says to create a generic object with properties and handlers to allow for simple iteration, creation, etc. like you would with an interface. Then, if needed, use a prototype to set def

I agree that native apps are the way to go in a perfect world. And yes, we are developing for the users. However, you are over simplifying the issue. Depending on the type of development you are doing you may also be doing it for the money.

I think that, while the perfect solo developer/designer might have all of these characteristics, most "great" websites evolved from a lot of the negative endpoints in the chart. Basically, I wouldn't tell someone who asked me if they could

People that don't execute don't matter. The idea of an "idea" is too abstract to have this argument really. If an idea is as long as a sentence with no further in depth exploration, it really doesn't matter. If it is becoming more of a plan
