Given the amount of work it would take to write yourself, I can't imaging 13$ being a bad deal. If you could write it in less than 13$ worth of time, you're either an incredibly brilliant hacker, or seriously undervaluing your time's worth.

I'm not surprised PlentyOfFish was hacked in the least. I signed up at one point and the password entry form wasn't even obscured. That was my first red flag. So I made sure to use a throwaway password. But it got worse. Every few days, POF

Not all the time. But my wireless keyboard + iPad + Xcode would work great en lieu of an otherwise expensive, bulky laptop.

If I could get Xcode running on an iPad, I wouldn't need my laptop any longer. So while this might not be quite self-hosting just yet, I think it's a really cool idea for the future. Some day we'll get there.

Technically you are throwing money at the problem (or someone is, for you).

At this point, I'd be a little disappointed too, if iPad 2 doesn't have the doubled display. But the article is definitely convincing. I'm a nerd, so it would disappoint me. But I think in general, Apple already still has such an enormous l

I realize Gruber is very pro-Apple, but this article makes no mention of them. In fact, it seems this article is solely in terms of Google (and just slightly Adobe, and a few content providers). Imagine, if you will, this was written by som

My guess is patents. And they already have great H264 implementations. And hardware support. What would be the benefit, to them or their users, if they used WebM?

While true, I'd say still very relevant. Even though home broadband has improved drastically since 1999, you also have to now consider mobile connections (while high-speed in large cities, they have sketchy service elsewhere, and usually hi

Exactly. And what's really sad is all this talk of "Windows on ARM" when they've already got a new ARM-based OS that's quite nice for phones (WP7). I just don't understand why WP7 isn't their flagship "mobile" OS (phones, tablets, and beyon

I would argue "a large percentage of Windows users" do not have Helvetica installed as a system font (CS fonts are not used for web rendering unless you also install them as system fonts), and I would argue Arial looks bad no matter which

Why not put Helvetica before Arial in your stylesheet? Mac/iOS/Galaxy tab users will see better typography, and nothing will change for everyone else. Other than that, super cool concept!

I'd even be OK with "Thumbs Up/Down this result just for your own personal book-keeping", so that you can promote/demote results in your own search history (try searching for "_____ tutorial photoshop" and you'll get tons of splog links bef

> The Simulator is always running the latest version. Actually this appears to be false now. I just fired up my iOS Simulator, and in the "Hardware" menu I can select which OS version I want, either 3.2, 4.0.2, 4.1, or 4.2.

I've always been a fan of: 4.2.2.1 and I believe it has a family of DNS servers in a similar range. Has never let me down (whereas my ISP, Rogers, has done so countless times).

People keep saying that as a defence, and I agree 2.2 isn't made for tablets. But it makes me wonder: why did Samsung even ship it then?

There's nothing impossible about a DRM-free media subscription. Just that the content creators likely will never go for it. But if you compare a DRM-free to DRM-enabled services, DRM is of no benefit to the consumer. It's only a 'benefit' t

I can echo this for working on iOS with Cocoa touch as well. While there's no native JSON provided by Cocoa touch, there are excellent third-party tools. XML in iOS is a beast, and a real pain to read (and I've never attempted to write it).

I don't think the OP means to use this exact tool as an alternative to Flash and its tools, but that Apple could adapt this tool and its other developer tools to create a really compelling "HTML5" development tool.
