I use this technique on Heroku for my oauth requests and it works well. One downside is that your responses have to interface directly with Rack, and you lose out on all the functionality in Rails and the middleware stack. To account for th

I read a textbook on physiological chemistry and took to the internet to see if I could find every known essential nutrient. The danger is that there are far more essential nutrients that we don't know about, than nutrients that we do. An

A unit's dependency is part of that unit. If a unit test mocks out all the dependencies, that test is running in a fantasy world.

I usually don't write tests for frameworks, databases, web-servers, or other third-party software that is supposed to work. I mock these things out, and test my code, not theirs. If your software has a dependency on a third party componen

There are a few reasons I don't do this. For one, deploys take longer. Also S3 isn't able to negotiate the Accept-Encoding header. So you have to assume that all your clients will be able to handle gzipped assets. You can use your app as a

I love this. I also miss how the bamboo console would let me enter a ruby command locally and then execute it remotely when I hit enter. I've been meaning to make a gem to replicate this behavior.

I think you're right. Often times people in the Tenderloin will ask me for the time. When I give it to them they say "Thank you" and move on, with no followup request for money or food. It's possible they genuinely need to know the time. It

I switched from Spotify to Rdio recently. As someone that likes to hack on music projects, I'm really impressed with the Rdio API. I especially like their integration with Echonest, which gives you a deep "beat-by-beat" analysis of every tr

I love this! It would be cool to see this integrated with something like share.js so people could collaborate.

When you save a track, there is a little "lock" icon below where you type in the track name. You can use this to mark a track as private. Sorry, that should be more clear.

Thanks sc00ter! I like the progress bar idea. I might also add a way to comment on a track right from the play button. People love getting comments and feedback.

Thanks for the support, I appreciate it. The non-flash experience does leave a lot to be desired. As you know, I always have to weigh investing time improving it vs improving something else. But I realize that isn't much consolation to the

I'm primarily looking for design and coding skills. Over the next year I'm going to be evolving beatlab to allow for the composition of full length production quality songs. I'd also like to involve more artists and producers along the way.
