"Hypercritical" is a great name for that podcast. Over an hour of nitpicking was more than I could stomach. I haven't finished the book, but what I've read wasn't that bad.

Closing the performance gap on jQuery Mobile is going to be a watershed moment for mobile web application development. I've worked with jQuery Mobile and I need to disagree. jQuery Mobile doesn't add much to mobile web app development. It

The overall size of the code graph in browser memory matters. It's not just about the size you're delivering over-the-air. That said, I have apps in both the Apple Appstore and Android Market that have embedded webviews that pull down the m

Mobile web development requires a different way of thinking about code. Every line counts. More lines equals a larger code graph in browser memory and starts to affect your app's performance. Mobile web frameworks get you an immediate boost

HTML5 is JavaScript. Without JavaScript, HTML5 is just a few semantic HTML tags (like header and section) and a few extra form input attributes (like required and placeholder). As far as JavaScript frameworks go, you could use Sencha or j

Are there really work environments so distracting that 8 hours in the office equals 1 hour at home? That seems crazy. If so, there's is something seriously messed up at that office. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for telecommuting and did a 10

I'm on an EVO using Dolphin Browser. ...and you're totally right about jQuery Mobile causing suckage. I used it for a couple features and I'm now ripping it out in favor of a little handrolled solution I built. I even replaced the jQuery co

Nice work. I work in mobile web and I applaud the simplicity and speed. That said, to really make it snappy, bind to 'touchstart' instead of 'click' --- or implement a 'tap' event. Also, I might go a couple font sizes larger. It's readable,

Probably for the same reason you don't see Southwest flights on any travel website. Southwest doesn't allow their flights to be booked outside of their website.

I think you're right...except for the part about Python and RoR. I think those are here to stay, though I doubt many people know why to would pick one over the other, perhaps other than the buzzword value.

Thanks! I like the auto-generated placeholder user icon sweaters on the users page. That's a nice touch.

You should let people browse without needing to register for an account. Otherwise, how do I know if I want to create an account? Looks like a promising idea though. Good luck!

I've experienced this too and no longer use the app cache either. I use the browser cache and that means that yes, the user must have network connectivity to load the page, but at least it always works and the cache doesn't get into a jacke

I was using jQuery Mobile. The listview framework is a big part of the performance problem. Needless to say, the best advice I would give (that others have said here as well) is to avoid frameworks like jQuery Mobile. There many other reaso

Nice overview. One note of caution: Rendering on the client side using jQuery Templates as the author suggests is great for small amounts of content, but even a list with 40 items will nearly freeze the UI while its rendered. I've experienc

As an Apple shareholder, I would protest and Jobs would too. Re-read his 2005 Stanford commencement address. He's pretty in tune with life and death. That said, it's a down day in the market and Apple stock is barely down 1 percent. At some

Didn't YC classes used to be much much smaller? It's great publicity having the YC name attached to your startup, but it's a lot of companies to look at in a single sitting. Surely, each one gets a bit less time and attention, which devalue

Swing for the fences? I'd say they swung for the fences and knocked it out the park. The app is great and it doesn't surprise me to see them get acquired. $25 million ain't chump change and it's definitely well deserved.

50% less seems low. Everything is a negotiation. Remember this. If you think you're worth more (and you obviously are since you make 2x of that offer right now), come back with a counter offer that's 50% more than what you currently make. I

Referencing Zillow is the first indication you have no clue about the real estate market. Two examples: The house I live in has a carriage house behind it. It's zoned as a rental, has a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and about 800 sq ft of stud
