I thought Australia first and then thought that's a bit random of a choice. Brisbane, CA makes some more sense. That said, I don't think they'll move. I think they're bluffing to get San Francisco to throw some of those tax breaks their way

Great article. The last sentence is what I thought when I first heard about this: "The one sure thing you can tell from this is that Facebook clearly can't self fund itself enough for what it needs, even on $2bn turnover a year." It will be

I wonder why Spotify gets the press for not being able to negotiate the deals required to bring their service to the States when companies like MOG are already offering pretty much the same thing? I understand MOG doesn't have a free versio

What about people who don't have Facebook accounts? I think the idea is cool and I get that the whole point is hitting the Facebook "Like" button, but it may keep some people out of the deals. Something to consider and perhaps hedge one way

My opinion might be biased because I'm working on drag and drop z-index issues in IE7 today (which are a NIGHTMARE), but given IE's track record of "being different" I think this will be half-baked and full of bugs and inconsistencies. I fu

Clickable: http://castmyclips.com I like the idea, but I don't think the name conveys what the product does. Off the top of my head I don't have a better name (sorry), but I'd work on that and then simplify the landing page so you know ri

In canvas's defense, canvas and SVG/VML are different tools for different jobs. For a charting library, you should absolutely use SVG/VML instead of canvas. You don't need the bitmap properties of canvas, canvas doesn't scale well and you c

Bravo! This is really cool. The JavaScript is clean, a pleasure to read and a learning exercise in and of itself. Extra bonus points on the user interface, which looks incredible. I just got into watching some Khan Academy on Roku and I'm l

I'm with you on that. I flag articles that are political. That said, the posts about the science behind backscatter radiation, and subsequent discussion on HN, I've enjoyed.

I think he's just upset about the TSA articles. That point keeps coming up over and over again in his post. It weakens what he has to say. It's clear he supports the TSA to "stop planes from getting blown up." Since the majority of HN doesn

I agree 100% with the privacy concerns you've raised. My question was/is: Is buying an ad on Facebook a privacy violation? Facebook gives you all the data you need to use people's friends to sell stuff. This is what makes advertising on Fac

I don't see what's threatening or intimidating about "Have your friend Melanie call me." Seems pretty innocuous to me. Could you buy Facebook ads that target the person's friends? All the data you need is there for the debt collector's taki

I think developers coming to Python from other languages (like I am from a heavy Java background) find the auto-creation of "shadow variables" pretty interesting. To someone used to Java, being able to access a private member via its shadow

I'm not advocating using getters/setters in Python. Just pointing out that you can access "private" members. I don't typically use getters and setters in JavaScript either. Java, on the other hand, kind of forces you into using getters and

Agreed. I can't think of a time when you'd need to use it either (and I wrote the post). But, coming from working in Java for the past few years, it seems pretty cool that you can do it.
