Another option where you can have best of the both possible worlds is to do a convertible debt round with a conversion cap. That way the deal gets executed cheaply and quickly benefiting the entrepreneurs. The cap benefits the angel for tak

Expect it to be disabled if it catches on. Facebook most probably will act with vengeance on any app which impacts its main advertising driven revenue stream. If your app catches on then people will log on less frequently and see less ads

Article is surprisingly lacking in logical rigor: Observe X (Trip Advisor above Oyster) Observe Y (Trip Advisor has a cluttered ad-strewn page) Conclude that X is a result of Y. One counter-example to refute article: Wikipedia

Without a portfolio it would be tough to get a project. If you don't have a portfolio I would recommend making some stuff up. Take a popular site that you feel you can do a better job designing and do it. Everybody on Odesk or Elance has a

How are you forming these teams? Ad-hoc? Then I would have no allegiance. But if you assign people with birthdays on odd days to one team and even to another then I can see tribal behavior and competition emerging. You have to some reason t

My view is that once you attach a monetary value to such online activity you actually devalue it and the experience of sharing. If each Karma point on HN got me a buck I would not care as much as I care now about how many upvotes I get. -

It is a very good question that pg asked while just joking around something that I guess all entrepreneurs should have an immediate answer to, 'Why doesn't this already exist?'
