I think open source still has an important advantage in the pro environment despite being less convenient, and it's the possibility of adding things in between the generation process like control net, and custom loras with new concepts

I suppose the closest equivalent would be motherboards with dual BIOS. There if something goes wrong during an update, you always have a backup BIOS with the previous version (not necessarily factory settings). If the system fails to boot,

Nope, Firefox still uses its own rendering engine and JavaScript engine—except on iOS, where it's essentially Safari with a UI wrapper. But that’s due to Apple’s ToS, not Firefox’s fault. I assume the previous comment was about market

Agree. I mostly do front end in my day job, and despite JavaScript being a bit of a mess lang, dealing with npm is way better than juggling anaconda, miniforge, Poetry, pip, venv, etc depending on the project. UV is such a smooth UX that it

Me too, I used to think I hated soldering, until I tried a proper solder station in a shop, but for the amount of repairs I do, I couldn't justify spend 200 in something like that, but this PINECIL sounds like a great middle ground.

I agree. I recently got a Raspberry Pi 5 and regret not getting one of these N100s instead for a small home server. A lot of the killer features of the Pi like using a traditional phone charger, being passively cooled, and being "cheap

I guess because most people have seen similar things IRL, not as extreme like Win 3.1, but is not that rare to find Windows XP systems still in place in systems even today (in their defense, most of them are offline, like kiosks ot things l

Agree. A lot of non documented processes lives only in the heads of certain people. I remember conversations like "you know how to access the server? ssh it's not working" "Oh yeah about that, ask Josh in the 3rd floor,

My mom has a i5 2500 ThinkCentre, for her needs that cpu it's good enough, she mostly browse the web and use basic apps like office or Spotify. I'll say the biggest bottleneck is the old igpu, but I solved that using a cheap 1030.

I never liked the 3D era of TVs that were so popular in the CES some years ago, I found it gimmicky and not that immersive and the 3D effect requiere an almost perfect scenario to work. But then I got to play with a Meta Quest, my hype for

I love my smart AC, but I'm sure that smart functions will not last (or at least not without being a risk of security by unmaintained firmware) so I love these kind of projects that help you modularize the internet part.

Agree. As a developer I've tried to use Copilot and ChatGPT as much as I can to improve my performance, but even with GPT4 I've found that for my workflow the most of the leverage it gives falls into: * Scaffolding of projects lik

It's the CurrentYear™, and we still don't have play counts (like personal ones, not the youtube global count). Play Music had it, even my iPod shuffle from 2006 had it, but YT Music for some reason don't.

Yes. I love many of Google's products, but there is always the fear that if you add them to your workflow, they could be removed tomorrow for no good reason. Disclaimer: I'm still salty about Google Reader, Domains and Play Music.

I'll say PowerBI has the potential to be more powerful, but you need to love the whole M and DAX languages eco system. And the integration with python and R it's not that bad. But if your vis are with the scope of native Tableau c

I wonder if we need legislation for AI training, at least for commercial use of training datasets for LLMs (and other generators like text to image), should be that authors of the training material should be Opt In rather than Opt out. Mos

Depends a lot on the niche. A lot of people are just readers in tech blogs, and only comment if you made a mistake. But if you have a personal blog, the most random opinion can get dozen of comments even with a fraction of the readers.
