Microsoft's role remains same as it was on Thursday. Minor (49%?) shareholder and keeps access to models and IP IMO Kevin tweeting that MS will hire and match comp of all OpenAI employees was amazing negotiation tactic because that mea

It's a great negotiation tactic from MS imo so that OpenAI employees don't budge on their petition knowing MS is backing them

Doesn't seem so from Emmett's tweet which suggests they will continue to pursue commercial interests.

Their PPUs go to zero if there is no profit to be made and the 85B tender offer is likely also off. I suspect this makes it easier for many of them to quit

How do these decisions even happen? Does the board just say "Hey I know a guy, let me check if they are interested" Surely Emmett must be really capable but still seems a bit of wild card entry

Obviously Ilya will not be as famous as Sam since Sam is doing world tours and talking to who's who of world politics. But Ilya, Karpathy, gdb all are well respected and know in dev circles. Even the recent OpenAI profile in one of pro

Frankly in OpenAI's case, for a lowly IC or line manager, it is also very obviously about the money as well. A non-profit immediately makes the values of OpenAI's PPUs (their spin on RSUs) to zero. Employees will be losing out of

You are missing the emotional aspect of it, a connection towards building something great _together_. In some ways it is selfish, it make you feel important. If Susan Fowler's book is accurate, Uber under TK was riddled with toxic m

We are about to find out if the moats are indeed that strong. xAI recently showed that training a decent-ish model is now a multi-month effort. Granted GPT-4 is still farther along than others but curious how many months/resources does

Amazon couldn't care less about research imo. They know they'll be able to quickly get into next bandwagon with scrappy engineering even if they aren't the ones inventing it

Yeah I think Home significantly deteriorates with time. - refuses to understand English at times (maybe it's picking some weird localisation) - will not hear. Period. Literally have to shut the power couple times.

It's also a little insane to me that what Adept has been supposedly building for years with 300+ mil in funding can now be built in a day with Open AI APIs? I think Adept pivoted along the way but original concept was very similar to t

Yeah I don't _think_ there is a lot "magic" in custom GPT. However creating something like this previously required a Jupyter notebook but now just...asking for it. Makes it accessible to 10x more people
