So, somewhere on that website, there’s a free version that can be downloaded onto a desktop and run without signing up for their service? I think I understand what it does now. So, basically you leave a computer running at home, and this th

I can’t tell if you’re trying to help, or just getting into the spirit of the website’s “how it works (using ten pages of terminology and acronyms we just made up)” page.

I’m seeing a lot of this same comment here, so I went to check out this tailscale thing, which clearly I must need. Can anybody explain what Tailscale is, does, or why everybody seems to have it? Looking at their website, it’s just a huge w

a car cannot be used like a truck. I think that’s more down to choice than possibility. I’ve hauled all those things home from the diy store in my boring Volvo with its roof rack. Had 600-odd pounds of sand in the back just last week. 4x8

Rather than taking their lead and improving the product, they just sat there with the exact same product for like 10+ years. It was outrageous. I think that this is actually the only viable strategy for a hardware product company in the c

Indeed. One is given away for free to do whatever you want with it. The other is given away for free to do whatever you want except to be a dick. If you’re not planning to be a dick, they’re functionally identical. It’s an improvement.

The problem is that your intern in this case is doing 1600% of the work, and now it’s your job to find and remove that extra 1520% so that you’re left with something usable.

I dunno... Different times, different risk tolerance. Back in 1980, my dad was sitting at his desk in Bellevue one morning when news came in that Mt. St. Helens was erupting. Him and a pilot friend had the presence of mind to head straight

It was never a good idea for a product. I'm not ever going to talk to my phone. Certainly not for the slim list of things that doing so would make more efficient than just looking at it and poking the button I need. And there's n

Well timed. I've been going through this process as a non-artist forced to churn out some tiles for a game I'm building [1]. I started off simply cribbing all the tiles from Ultima IV for the Apple II, then gradually adding some

Can anybody provide some context for this? I can’t parse what’s going on from the post or the comments here, and there’s no navigation on that page to anywhere but “support “ It sounds like something is happening. What is it?

I get the occasional NASA photo on my instagram feed, and the comments are always filled with this same kind of Perfomative Ignorance. It must be fun, but it’s a shame to see it trickle in here.

This seems like it would work nicely if you removed the concept of pipes and pumps, and replaced them with containers and gravity. I imagine a barrel of air at the surface with an osmosis filter at the opening and a big ass rock tied to it.

When I launched Twiddla, it was so common that we joked about adding them to the shape tool. I think it’s just human nature that that’s the first thing you try to draw on any online whiteboard.

While you’re at it, can you find and punch the guy who thinks it’s a good idea to zoom the map to “actual size, 1cm = 1cm” mode for your entire trip? I assume he’s also the one that taught it to spitefully let you drive off the side of the

I notice that I have a form of Gell-Mann amnesia for this sort of thing. Do we need a new term, or does that cover it? Because I find myself nodding along with optimism, having two grandfathers that died from this disease. It’d be great if
