This 100%. I have 6+ years experience now and am going for senior dev roles. 4 of those years are PHP and I feel company's and recruiters pidgin hole me as a "senior php dev". I feel like I have to continue down the php stack + web dev path

I did Software dev in year 11/12. We did vb6 back then (03/04) god I hope that has changed, but I can't help but think it helped me get where I am now

I agree with this ideology. However what I think what is missing from the post and the comments is mentioning that if you are going with a under engineering design philosophy you should be constantly be refactoring the code.

Visual basic 6 was/is allot worse than VB.net VB.net is just the same as C# with a different syntax. My evolution went something like this: BASIC -> VB6 -> (VB.NET + JAVA) -> C# Knowing VB.net and JAVA I pretty much picked up C#

Is it just me who doesn't see the point of using a templating engine with a language like PHP? As long as you use the MVC paradigm or at-least sperate views from business and data store logic it seems like PHP works fine to do the templatin

I took over from Snr dev who made 2 simple and bad time mistakes. 1) implementing their own DateAdd functionality in c# and forgetting about leap years. 2) thinking the app server and db server's time would never get out of sync. Fml he was
