There's how things can be done and how things ought to be done. This if nothing else demonstrates a learning path. And yes, I am shocked that the developer didn't know about bit shift operations... but hey, modern development is

I'm not surprised, plenty of tutorial writers (totally wrongly imo) want to write the simplest example they can cobble together under the guise of 'making it easy for people to understand'. There's no excuse for avoidin

I seem to recall this is how Paperspace[0] started (though they now seem to focus more on ML workloads from the look of their front page). If you only occasionally need an app or are travelling and don't want to carry even an ultraport

It's a real enough problem - I hate cooking on electric stoves. Part of me wonders how hard it'd be to come up with an electric stove that simulates a gas cooker. Also in the UK (where I am) gas is still cheaper than electricity -

The lack of documentation is concerning, it makes me wonder why Apple are rushing the rollout since they could have provided a lot more technical info in advance to prepare users. Aside from that, with all these security features I'd b

I love docker - for dev, testing and rolling out prototypes for light use. I know if any of my servers go down I can recreate them without too much hassle. Yes, it adds a layer of complexity but it also helps maintain a disciplined approa

The mistake is thinking half the system is doing nothing. It’s a bit like saying I’m paying to store my backups offsite but most of the time it’s not really used so it’s a waste of money. It just doesn’t hold. Most SQL problems that most of

Ahh classic. If you have tons of cash and fading dominance just buy up some other market players and screw ‘em up real good (in corporate terms). At least that’s typically how these things go. I hope it’s different ‘this’ time.

I wonder this too - I guess enough software engineering teams had similar problems with no solutions and each set about building their own? Not sure how else this proliferation happened.

This would not be (so much of) a problem if there was a statutory obligation on public officials to perform their duties and as part of that share certain information with the public. That would override any NDA seeking to circumvent it. O

THIS. Last time I pointed this out on another site I got downvoted. There really is no excuse to break the down button and if the abuse becomes widespread I can imagine browser devs will react the same way they did with popups. As soon as b

I had this issue with Teams where if I pasted code from VSCode (even just a 1 liner) it'd add a NUL character to the end and when pasted back into VSCode by the recipient it would mess up the JS file (no longer able to load properly in
