I remember getting pulled into Facebook because classmates tagged me in photos. Then when I signed up, it was extremely useful because you could see and meet other people in classes for study groups, etc. It was also great at delivering sta

Weird that the article didn't mention, Postmates already has reached critical mass with high quality on-demand delivery. For the 5 minute meals, UberEats is literally eating these small startups alive. Maybe Lyft will acquire Swig if t

Hmmm... this absolutest attitude by Apple begs the question for me, are we SURE we want to have phones that absolutely cannot be unlocked when the owner is no where to be found/dead? It's such a grey area and I will probably get d

That's definitely a cause for what we're seeing out of Congress, but it's not related to what we're seeing with Trump. He is winning at the polls with his hateful angry rhetoric and it's pretty damn strange.

I looooove purging stuff from my life. I'm about to move again in a couple months and will sell, donate and throw away pretty much most of my current possessions. It's a great freeing feeling, and I'm not one that gets sentim

This article headline is so loosely based on its contents. It basically suggests freshman in college continue to not be okay with hate speech and it's slightly on the rise since 1992. It's not really controversial at all and yet t

Only thing I would caution here is that Postgres HA is notoriously difficult to set up and get right. Something like CouchDB is designed from the ground up for high availability and scalability. So if your design calls for only a document s

2 possible causes for this: 1) Apple still develops the OS using waterfall over the year. Entire sweeping changes are made only at x.0 releases that trickle down to teams that have to work around the instability all year long and there'

This OP is struggling to use MinGW, why not install VS2015 or just install Microsoft's version of clang? True, that will depend on the latest version of msvcrt.dll, but at least your source code will remain cross-platform. As far as I

So let me just throw this out there, we will always have to answer to someone. Whether it's our middle manager in a big organization, VCs telling us how fast we need to grow, or our demanding users because they are the only way to get

I'm sorry, but software engineering was never glamorous. When I went into college, over a decade ago now, the first year courses were always the most packed, largely filled with hopeful souls. Then by year 2 and 3 they dropped back to

All the great lasting products come with a strong sense of community, no matter the mechanic. Foursquare had that with its friend list and checkin scores. Once they removed that from the core app, it became this faceless product that left m

There's a lot of great feature requests for issues at the bottom of the document. Not sure why the document highlights only 3 things above the signatures. Yet, I 100% agree with them. I do not understand why Github issues are so basic.

If I'm not mistaken, Paul Graham is asking to leave "us poor" startups alone because they need the freedom for founders to get rich, otherwise few would do it. Am I understanding that right? Quoted from his original essay:
