This reminds me of a short story I read when I was a kid, where a guy discovered a shape with zero sides. I think at the end he made his boss disappear by folding him into the shape.

I know a decent number of people I would want to be my first hire, and I think they might be interested. The biggest mental hurdle for me is "How can I ensure that I can pay them every month?"

I don't think there's anything wrong with being a little socially considerate. Only a Sith thinks in absolutes.

Here's something I noticed: If I spend all day browsing around the web unproductively, I don't feel motivated at all. If I say "You know what, I'm not getting anything done. I'm going to play video games for a few hours.", I feel energized

I think maybe changing it to "install" might be good, because it does take someone with basic sysadmin skills to set up anyway. I'd also consider putting the "find a community" stuff at the top too, since that's probably the first thing you

Pretty cool, I'm setting up a VPS to test this out for a possible San Diego wiki. Definitely would need some help with administration and populating it with content though, if anyone's interested. Edit: Temporary home here - http://173.255

Hoo boy, that could be dangerous if there's something physically wrong with the plane (a non-functional aileron or stabilator, for example).

Both Venus and Mars have good odds of having had liquid water oceans in the past. From what I understand, Venus would possibly be habitable today if it had a carbon cycle and planetary magnetic field to prevent the runaway greenhouse effect

Well I mean it runs kind of counter to your argument that there is not just one, but multiple sentient species on the planet. It also didn't take very long in cosmological terms for humans to go from sentient to supercomputers, either.

I really don't think all that trouble is necessary. A particular user is probably only going to see the homepage once or twice before creating an account, so even just hand-picking 5 images and rotating between them with JavaScript is proba

Probably the main reason I'd still pick Hubot over Hubot′ is that it's quick and easy to deploy to a free Heroku account. Plus there are a good number of modules available nowadays for node.js if I don't feel like reinventing the wheel.

I've been using acts_as_api [1], since (aside from the other features) it makes it really easy to version and "subclass" your APIs, and it keeps the presenters for each model separated (really useful for nested responses). I've found that i

Bitcoin is squarely at the bottom of the dip in the Gartner Hype Curve right now. It's a little bit of a gamble, but it could pay off. The risk to Dwolla of facilitating Bitcoin transfers is pretty minimal.
