Hospital bills in the US are a scam, they give huge discounts to insurance companies, expecting to make a profit on any remaining amount, then insurance companies charge patients only a part of that while covering the rest.

That kind of explanation is how a company could "promise the traffic will not be intercepted" while using ROT13 to secure it. Also the insurances/warranties are a joke, the way they're written, there is pretty much no wa

That's only true when writing new code. When you have to maintain code, you need to use all the features used by any one of the people who've ever worked on it, which at some point becomes all of the features.

Docker is about uptime, consistency, integrity, CI/CD, etc. If you're just testing stuff, and won't notice a day or two of downtime, you can skip it for now (but it does make things easier once you learn it). Always keep work

You can 3D print similar structures at a much larger scale. Some of the benefits are retained, like a better overall resistance to weight ratio, some others are not, like increased resistance to localized damage. It's pretty much what

I have experience with both PS and GIMP, and for simple tasks they are pretty much the same. Actually PS does some things in a slightly less intuitive way. The strong points of PS are a better optimization of some common professional workfl

CC contracts are kind of funny, because they are 1 year contracts with auto renewal, and they don't give you an easy option to cancel them, but if you happen to pay with a virtual credit card which happens to run out of funds after 1 m

London? That won't be Europe after Brexit. Seems to me like a lot of people will be in for a surprise.

I think it's mostly being used by European institutions, but there are notable exceptions like http://leave.eu a pro-Brexit campaign which would lose its domain (the irony).

The sky is an enormous space... and then people decide to all go to the same place, like some airport's runway. It's quite easy for some idiot drone operator to fly into an approach path, maybe just to take cool photos of landing

This is why I like news aggregators like HN, Reddit, Slashdot, etc. Even if I happen to be the 9 in 10 regarding some article, the 1 in 10 will usually be quite vocal in the comments.

You can get an RF scanner with a laser lens scanner for $10, and your phone camera is good enough for detecting IR LEDs. The only expensive part is the FLIR camera, but still 3 out of 4 for $10 is not bad.

I keep a small (and cheap) separate router for my IoT devices. If I wanted to spy on someone, I'd definitely use one of those, with a USB powerbank acting as a UPS.

ETH is theoretically better than BTC, while BTC is practically better than ETH. Depending on whether you want something cool to experiment with, or something to actually use, one is far better than the other.

It doesn't even have to be truly random, just "random enough". If you were to use a passphrase like "Use 5 or 6 words and the problems listed here vanish", that wouldn't be random per se, but for an attacker it
