You seem to know more about this than me, but from the post it appears like their data is just fine but the keys to decrypt it are gone/corrupt.

Go one step further and get the excellent codekit: http://incident57.com/codekit/ It is an essential piece of software in my workflow.

Honestly that sounds like the perfect group to decide this. The whole point of this lawsuit is to prove that your average Joe would have a hard time distinguishing Samsung's product from Apple's.

Nice post, thanks. However, as long as we're in best practices mode, you may want to write those commit messages in present tense.

I completely agree with you that in some (many) cases it's useful. But your checkout example proves my point; you wouldn't want a bot crawling through there. Bots should be crawling content-rich pages (blogs, articles, marketing pages), and

Rendering templates on the server is not expensive at all, that is completely untrue. I've been keeping up like any developer, in fact I'm writing a Backbone app as we speak. But like all of the apps I write, Google doesn't need to crawl i

Who really needs this for their web app? Nearly 99% of heavy web apps require a login, so Google is out of the picture anyway. Anyone who is building a content site with DOM-manipulating Javascript doing all the work have completely lost t

Nice work, but I think that a white-label API like Pwinty.com would be more profitable.

I assume the remote wipe zeros out the data a few times, otherwise the feature is somewhat useless.

Harnessed was a bad word choice, I meant that it was going to be used 99% of the time for piracy.

Busy week for API drama. I'm going to have to side with Dropbox on this one. This tool was quite obviously going to be harnessed for piracy.

I agree. I've always felt they've had good intentions, and I think that they do in this case as well. They are looking out for the posters who are entrusting them with their data.

If CL decided to take that money on the table, they might have rubbed a lot of people the wrong way and went out of business years ago. Maybe they realized the path to greatest profitability was to act like they don't care about profits. Ju

I'm surprised that FB doesn't have a full blown "FaceSense" program already. People may not be in a buying mood while on FB, but they will be on other sites.

I have a feeling all this will be somewhat moot anyway. If Padmapper is as popular as it appears to be, then many rental companies will go straight to them and submit their units in addition to CL.

Quick note on SSL: it's highly likely those prices will drop significantly once AWS supports multiple physical IPs per instance. Right now they have to provision an ELB to sit in front of your app to gain that extra IP.

Stripe might be considered "disruptive" in the developer community, but I fail to see how they are beyond that. They built a very easy to use tool on top of an outdated (though still commonly used) payment technology.
