I'm not really sure this post provides any useful information.

"Stuck with Apple" has been the story of my computing life. If another company can come along and provide a similar experience, I'll move over, but at this point no one is even close.

It was just an example, but what this means is that they are switching to semantic naming, rather than style naming.

Couldn't agree with this more, but I'm not sure it's a valid argument in most people's eyes. The Clackamas shooting was a perfect example of an incident that gun control likely would've prevented. It was not premeditated, it was a bad kid

By usability I meant ease-of-use.

Seconded. Apple may have set the bar really low for data, but they set it really high for interface and usability.

I think it's highly usable, just not useful :)

Nope, Google doesn't give them out. If you're an investor, don't worry, they're "huge" -_-

I feel like the Slashdot and /r/technology crowd have infected this place. So much negativity it's shocking.

That's a good example, thanks for sharing. Are there any others that you benefit from?

Completely agree! The OS is just an app launcher, and for some reason everyone here forgets that. Keeping it the same is to the consumer's benefit.

I don't think they do at all. Most of Google's core services are built on top of standards like SMTP, IMAP, CalDAV, Jabber, etc, so they can be consumed by any device. Apple is the one writing most of the extra code here because they want

Yes, there are definitely some kinds of content that won't be doable on a tablet, such as your Photoshop example. The OP just stated that word processing was harder on an iPad, which as we both know is simply an opinion.

No other PC, just his iPad. And he uses the keyboard and thinks it works great, so you are wrong in saying that it is bad for generating content. That's your opinion, not a fact.

No, not by our definition. But for many people email, web browsing, and writing the occasional text document is their professional life. The iPad is well equipped to do those things (most of those handful bought a keyboard as well).

This statement is just as inaccurate! You've completely dismissed the fact it might be happening based on no evidence at all. My brother just tossed his laptop for an iPad and he loves it. There's one person who has, so you're already wro

I know a handful of people that have completely left the PC market for the tablet market (read: iPad), but you know what they say about anecdotal evidence. Sidenote: they are thrilled with the transition.

I really think these tile widgets are not useful or easy to understand for an average user. Apple has it right: iOS is just an app launcher, and there is just one tier of apps, none of this widget-y stuff. I will note that small read-only c

Maybe I misunderstood your question. If you're looking for reasons to pick one over another, then it's whichever language you know best. Web frameworks really only differ in philosophy, and in this case, both are batteries-included, monoli

Rails is written in Ruby, and Django in Python. That's by far the biggest (and maybe only) difference.

This is definitely a good point that people seem to forget all of the time. That said, can you blame investors/buyers for being upset that Google is showing off such a nice piece of hardware but doing such a bad job of selling it? It certa

I would also like to see one. I think we know the profit margin is probably slim (low price + small batch), but exact figures would be nice to see.

By "problem" the OP didn't just mean a bug or ambiguous situation, they meant plugins, addons, etc, that the community has contributed. EDIT: Reading his post again, maybe he didn't mean that, but the point is still valid.

As long as they read the rumor mills they had 6-8 month notice. Still might not be long enough, I'm not sure how much development time it takes for an app like that.
