Is it really safe to assume that no filtering or personalization leads to diverse results? Isn't it more likely that unfiltered search results just put you in the mainstream bubble? I think the problem is the usage of the word "bubble" in t

I don't like the Windows experience of CoffeScript. That's what's holding me back. I think I would use it if it had better Windows support. As far as I know CoffeScript requires node.js, npm and cygwin. Am I wrong?

Thank you for the clarification. This comes as a surprise to me. I did not know that. In my defense, I couldn't know about the "View customizations" link because I do have web history turned off, so apparently I never saw any personalized s

I agree, I don't believe that over-personalization is an issue. (As I already said in another comment.) But here's why some people probably don't like personalization: It's invisible. There is nothing on the results page that tells you whet

Why do you think it is an issue? I think everyone already filters intuitively. It's called having a "bullshit filter". I believe it makes not much difference whether it's automated or everyone does it manually. I think the chance that I wou

These 22 are only gTLDs, which are not the only type of TLDs. There are also ccTLDs.

You can't. Which is great for users. Think of it like an iframe. Any page can already trigger pageloads of your page that the user might not had intended.

I, too, found this quote very remarkable. But it left me wondering. Can anybody tell me where the harm in underprotecting "intellectual property" comes from? This is an honest question. I don't understand it. Maybe it's because I'm too youn

Do you think this would also work with Grooveshark? The problem with YouTube is that most music videos are geo-blocked outside the US, or at least for my country they are. (So are Pandora, Spotify, etc.) Furthermore I believe that Groovesh

Very useful. I always wished for something like this. I was a little disappointed to see that it didn't work on the iPad, though. The page just tells me (in grey text on a black background btw) that the flash player is needed, although embe

I think there used to be some diagrams, so the text-only version might not be the whole picture. Unfortunately that's all we can get right now.

As a German reader I think I can say that the part about Germany is wrong. In Germany the whole deal is about renewable energy. Even though nuclear energy does not produce greenhouse gasses and seems to be clean, it is by no means a renew

Just out of curiosity. How did this url fragment #.TfMwNJgETxs;hackernews end up in the URL? How did ReadWriteWeb know that this URL would be posted on Hacker News? Edit: Oh, I found out by myself. There's a link on the page to post the s

Note that there are many other implementations of this type of click tracking, so it wouldn't be possible to strip all of these tracking strings. For example ReadWriteWeb also does this for posts on HN. Just take a look at this recent submi

While the overall message of this article is probably true, I couldn't get over the fact that her diagrams are stupid and are almost meaningless, because she is comparing percent changes. A 1% rise in equipment spending doesn't mean the sam

Oh, so it isn't a visualization of how ARC works. It's just an image of something else that coincidentally has the same name. I would've never figured that out. Thanks.

The widget prediction is very unlikely to happen, because that's what Apple was trying to get rid of in the first place. At least that's what I think. For example, many of the Apple's original iPhone apps were adapted from Mac OS X dashboar

Thats why I said the camera "appears" to be turning, because it isn't actually turning. Sorry, I may have phrased that badly. But thank you for the link. It's a great video.
