This has been here before: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2420201 I'm mentioning it because I think that source is actually much more informative.

What does a SPDY protocol error look like? I don't think I have encountered one yet. Is there any way a user can tell a SPDY and a HTTP error apart?

There are some caveats. This, for example, would not work as expected: foo() [1,2,3].forEach(bar) Automatic semicolon insertion wouldn't work here, because the bracket could be a continuation of the last line. The same goes for par

I've seen this exact advice in the Tango icon theme guidelines several years ago: http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Icon_Theme_Guidelines#Fre... But i think it only applies for low-contrast backgrounds, like in these examples, for high-c

They clearly listened to This American Life's piece on patents. That title can't be coincidence. They just appended the word "Android" to it. :-)

I have mixed feelings about this. I don't like to tell other people what they should or should not be doing. It's rude. Maybe that's just me, but I also have never heard of anyone using the "Invite to Gmail" feature (at least since registra

Yeah, I agree. Karma shouldn't be an indicator of how often one visits HN, it's merely an indicator of how much one participates in the HN community. For me, getting karma is not desirable at all. What's the point of it? I only comment, whe

This doesn't account for users who have never submitted or commented, because there would be no way for their profile URLs to end up in Google's index. Or am I missing something? I know that there's the possibility for things to get into th

I don't get why this is downvoted. You are right. At least Google explicitly marked this as a "Chrome experiment" instead of labeling it as a "HTML5 showcase".

I can't agree more with you. I hate these stupid iPad-optimized themes which in reality make the reading experience worse. Why would anyone prefer faked scrolling or faked pagination (that's what this theme does) over the perfectly good nat

Apparently in Chrome there is a fit to screen button, whereas in Firefox there isn't. (I haven't looked at it in other browsers.) They must be doing a browser detection to turn that feature on. I wonder why.

When I wrote that previous comment I assumed that most binary data would probably use an encoding that is longer/shorter than 8 bit (that's what was examined here). But thinking about it, that might not be true. I don't know.

I think that's a basic insight for everyone who wants to create innovative software. You need to realize that customers don't think in a creative way. They only think of what's easiest to think of for them. But most of the time those ideas
