I happened upon a bit of an unconventional approach to this with Zotero. It’s obviously more focused on academic research but it takes snapshots and works as a more general purpose archive tool really well.

In this scenario does your employer have strong controls around what whether you can write hobby code on your own time?

Tried it and it worked quite well! Out of 100 headshots I got maybe 3 to 5 that I would use. A low hit rate but I think anything like this is necessarily going to employ a shotgun approach. The edit feature needs work. Anything I tried to e

I was quite excited to add this one! And shocked to not find it, given the overall high production quality.

They're not sidestepping accountability, or at least we can't infer that from the information volunteered. They're talking about retention, and the less data you retain (subject to local laws), the less data can be leaked in

I understand scaling. I’m saying there is a difference in severity of several orders of magnitude between “the computers are down” and “we can’t add additional computers”.

Is that material to a conversation about service uptime of existing resources, though? Are there customers out there that are churning through the full lifecycle of ephemeral EC2 instances as part of their day-to-day?

Close but slightly different. As I envision it, the random selection would only be for the pool of candidates. People in the pool would have the option but not the obligation to run and there would still be campaigns and voting as there are

Or ‘notepad.app’ would quite clearly convey that it is an editor in the spirit of notepad but for macOS.

Personally I think dropping the exe and just calling it notepad is the obvious low-hanging fruit. I like the nostalgic aesthetic—it’s refreshing in this age of cookie-cutter tailwindcss splash pages, but exe is just quite confusing.

Ya. Bit of a shame. It’s OP’s choice of course and I get that it’s kitschy or whatever but I think he’s leaving money on the table as a commercial product. If it were actually funny I think I’d feel different, but ironically calling a nativ

This is similar to my idea for a better democracy. Every cycle involves a lottery where, say, 1000 random citizens become eligible to run for public office. A small enough number to make ‘career politician/sociopath’ an unviable life p

If Discord says they delete the PII they collect and they ultimately fail to do that, whether by malice or negligence Discord owns 100% of the blame. If I get drunk and drive the wrong way down the highway and cause a wreck, the blame is no

I am super curious how other people use discord. I’m like you—trying and basically failing to keep up with 6 servers. I just want to watch a power user out of morbid curiosity. I suspect they are also browser tab hoarders, which I’m also cu

Whether you share it once or in perpetuity is of no practical consequence. They already have the photo at that point. I agree about the clicks—the UX should be one-shot select and share with the permissions handled implicitly.

That’s exactly what OP asked for. To select which photos an app has access to using the system picker so they can’t see the whole camera roll.

iOS already has exactly the experience you describe and it clearly urges you toward sharing only specific photos. The only feature request I have is to be able to scope app permissions to an album, since the current flow of selecting indivi

All I have is copilot as well, but with that I can configure Aider to use the copilot openai endpoint, and through that access most of the good models with a capable CLI tool. It’s a pair-programming experience more than an agentic one but

Yes but you’re answering the wrong question. It’s not, “what is the probability of death on my next jump?”. It’s “what is the accumulated probability of death by jumping repeatedly.” The way you answer it is by flipping it upside down (what

IMO the reason devs started being paid in stock in the first place is VC-style grow at all costs mentality. The fundraising economy didn’t work without fabricating compensation and only paying out on hits. No other industry operates with su
