I guess my orginal point was that RPython has lots of hooks (eg the decorators that you mentioned) which allow the JIT to effectively trace the interpreted program. You would probably have to extend LuaJIT with similar hooks in order to use

I'm not familiar either, I'm just going off the article. "One thing the trace optimiser knows is that because program_counter is passed to jit_merge_point as a way of identifying the current position in the user's end program, any calculati

I built a really hacky version of this when I was fresh out of university and looking for jobs. Searching for jobs by keyword sucks so I just chucked a whole bunch of feeds into a database, de-duped them and presented them through a bayesia

The disruptor is just a very efficient event loop. It doesn't prevent you from blocking the handling thread.

Per object overhead in functional languages is usually lower since polymorphism is handled at the function level rather than the data level. You don't have to store class pointers etc, just the raw data and probably a type tag. I can't find

I imagine it has more to do with their public defiance and PR ability. The MPAA and RIAA want to frame the debate in their own terms. The Pirate Bay and the political organizations they inspired are a threat to that.

Because the US and Germany care about each others business and SOPA would make a lot of people wary of dealing with the US.

One of the core issues here is the typical US-centric viewpoint that proposed a law affecting sites hosted in other nations. Which makes it annoying that the petition link requires a US zipcode. Just a little thing, but it irks me.

Prices vary wildly. IEEE starts at $5695 per 350 downloads per year [1]. ACM membership + library access is a very reasonable $200 [2]. I can't find an all-access subscription for Springer but individual journals range from 100 EUR to 20000
