The problem seems to be CPU bound, it's got 16GB of memory and memory pressure is low. The CPU is a i7-7820HQ, though I thought that it was interesting that my iPhone XR (Apple A12) scores higher on a synthetic benchmark than my top o

It's interesting how we've come full circle. Some of the engineers who worked at DEC later worked at PA Semi and Apple after the acquisition, helping develop Apple Silicon. DEC's Alpha workstations running Unix were among the

Tesla is super annoying as well since there aren't many body shops that they have approved to work on the car. Prepare to wait months. That's in Sydney AU, not sure about the US.

I mostly use iCloud for photo sync. It would be nice if there was some sort of API or something that third party applications could use to upload and download photos automatically in the background, like iCloud Photos does.

8% seems like a lot. Car usually stays plugged in at home so I haven't seen it drain. I wonder if it's having trouble since the cameras aren't working, and constantly trying to detect objects or something?

As an Aussie, it’s weird to think that induction and other cooking appliances are so slow or expansive. We have a $200 AUD induction stovetop from Aldi that draws up to 7.2kw across 4 pans

YouTube generates a transcript that’s on the sidebar (above the recommended videos). It is kind of broken text though, so I copy and paste the block into Gemini (it’s free and has a huge context) and ask it to read it and generate the point

I'm not from the UK, but I get the same vibe here in Sydney. There doesn't seem to be much technical work here, all of it is in Silicon Valley.

The Prusa Mini required you to snap a part of the pcb off to flash custom firmware. I actually like this approach, you have to very deliberately break apart of it to signal that you know what you are doing.

I hate these stupid ‘smart’ devices. Personally, I just have some decent quality speakers hooked up to an good quality old school amp with an AirPort Express feeding into the line in.

I agree, my first OS was 10.5 Leopard, and I absolutely loved its graphical design—something truly special. It also had a genuine Unix feel to it, which, as you mentioned, seems to have been lost in more recent releases.
