If you want to save cash you can try your luck on AliExpress. Here's a device that looks a lot like the Magewell USB 3 UVC HDMI grabber for $118 (with free shipping): http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-Shipping-XI

You can also use devices that are USB Video Class (UVC) compliant, thus which don't require any drivers. libuvc can be used to capture from these devices: https://github.com/ktossell/libuvc You can get cheap off-b

We sold quite a few machines on the back of it, although those customers probably only got a couple of years use of it before their clients stopped shooting film. Then most folk in London got rid of their Spirits. Now this year half the big

Cool, years ago I spent many months going back & forth to Weiterstadt, working on Spirit DataCines and Spirit 2K/4K machines, adding support for controlling them via Baselight. There's some considerable engineering in those ma

I'm sure you'll see a market in 3rd-party carrier boards & packages with the X1 module on it. Love the fact that it's got a proper x4 PCIe slot on the dev kit. Hopefully someone will sell the modules with a MOQ of less th

Define HDR. Almost all displays people have these days are not capable of reproducing the dynamic range that most cameras can capture. Hence why we have colour grading, which is the image equivalent of audio mastering.

Just wanted to chime in and agree, the camera control is slick. So many 3D apps have atrocious camera controls.

You can't share a rendering context between processes, but you can share an IOSurface between processes, and bind that to an OpenGL texture, which you can either draw using, or render to (by binding it to a framebuffer). < https:&#x

I've found Tower to be very sluggish on a large repository on OS X, where as Source Tree keeps on trucking. Our repo is 4GB and has about 1 million commits. Source Tree is the only client on Mac I've found so far that doesn't

NVIDIA will totally play along. They already have something that looks a lot like Vulcan, called NV_command_list, in their beta 346-series drivers. Apologies for the SliderShare link, I hate SlideShare. < http://www.slideshare.

It doesn't just magically work, someone still has to write the drivers & user space libraries. Apple would also then have to support three graphics APIs, vintage OpenGL, Metal (on iOS) and Vulkan (on iOS and OS X?), across four har

I'm a cynic, but don't get me wrong, I'd be delighted if Vulkan or OpenCL 2.1 show up in OS X 10.11. Khronos is a funny beast, a bit like the United Nations. Just because these companies are all part of it doesn't mean t

I've spent 15 years working on OpenGL, but I'd kick it to the kerb in a heartbeat. AMD and NVIDIA are free to implement Vulkan on Windows and Linux, but the problem is that we will probably be stuck with OpenGL 4.0 on Mac OS X for

At our company, we have been shipping XFS as the filesystem for our products for over 8 years. We've shipped many petabytes of storage in that time, all of which is being heavily hammered every day in feature film & TV post-production.

You don't need to use a Kompressor (Mac Pro) to decode RED on a Baselight. Baselight supports RED natively on Linux (including RED Rocket support). Kompressor is only there for handling codecs for which there is no (official) Linux implemen
