It depends on what your goals for your kids are. It also depends on the quality of screen time. Youtube != Programming != Video gaming != Documentaries != Movies != TV. Personally, my primary goal for my son is not to make him the best prog

I really like your idea to give her cards. I think practicing budgeting and spending is probably really good for kids, and your solution feeds into that. Great job! I will probably steal this idea when my son is older . . . and perhaps I sh

Or do, and cut from other areas/don't get on the hoighty-toighty daycare/lessons/private school treadmill. But kids are definitely an expense.

Hedonic adaptation is the devil. You'd hope/intuit that spending more resources would make you happier, but that's just not the way it works. That said, you can use knowledge of this quirk of human psychology to make you rich

Some of these problems can be incredibly difficult. We used to use these to practice for the ICPC.

I don't know exactly how much Netflix pays this guy, but if it was at least as much as Glassdoor claims we pay our directors, I really can't understand why he would risk that for an extra $300k.

Prius regeneratively brakes until the battery is full, then engine brakes.

False. If you and your opponent can't agree on an arbitrator, you each pick one, and the two of then together agree on a third, who performs the actual arbitration.

It's not so much a design flaw as physics. Without adding brakes, what else could they do? They only have two energy sinks on board. The wheels aren't a sink when going downhill and the battery isn't a sink once it is full (u

I see people riding them all the time. I wouldn't let this stop you if you're actually interested. It would be great if the law always reflected the reality on the ground, but when it doesn't I favor pragmatism.

Kinda agree with this flippant response, but then again, if you need speed such that you care about lock free algorithms, you are likely using one of the very fast languages, and few of these offer a garbage collector.

It will be interesting to see how it works. The biggest issue I can foresee is that a program doesn't have a limit on how much it can manage, given the computation time. If one AI is even a little better than the next best, it could qu

So, there were lots of MBAs in 2013, but not so much in 2014? Even if you grant that MBAs are a good indicator of startup success, two data points doesn't make a trend line. And I don't think many people on here would be inclined
