I also agree with your take on Asset Forfeiture. In any case, I wasn't being snarky when I said "misremembered". I had, in fact, misremembered parts of the video, though the sense of recipients not being fully in on it remains.

Even "it's 20 dollars in silver" is iffy. To most, dollar means USD, and there's no constant dollars-silver ratio any more. This is the video that I was misremembering (works in newest VLC): http://replay.waybackmachine.org/20050206004912/

Are you referring to the Liberty Dollar? I remember being very interested in this (and in alternative currencies) a few years back but was put off by a video promoted on their official website which showed someone successfully passing a Lib

You see the touch functionality at the start of the video. It looks like it doesn't drive the onboard display and the TV at the same time, which explains the need for another input method (though emulating a trackpad on the screen, if possi

It looks like they're only using PayPal to pay money out to sellers. If PayPal shuts that down, they can probably find a way around it (in the worst case, send checks).

I understand where you're coming from because I didn't get Blogger. Around that time, I had my own example.net/~jambo homepage that I updated with stories, probably using Pagemill & FTP. What made Blogger a big deal is that they (eventu

If that's the case, I'd bet it's for license reasons. An AmazonMP3 purchase made after Cloud Drive is launched could be described as having been copied for personal use, at the time of purchase, to your Cloud Drive. Allowing previously purc

Can anyone see AmazonMP3 tracks in their library? I've purchased tons of music from AmazonMP3, and Cloud Player shows an empty library & 0 purchased songs. It seems like a big miss to launch this way. Hopefully it's just a bug.

That lyric, in isolation, isn't anti-intellectual. But it's followed by "and I don't wanna talk to a scientist, y'all motherfuckers lyin' and givin' me shit".

A friend of mine built this app to sync RunKeeper runs with DailyMile. DailyMile has an API, tweeted about it (they've since deleted that tweet), and was generally cool about it. RunKeeper on the other hand didn't like it and asked him to t

Facebook could (and probably does) collect the data necessary to track people around the web, whether or not they click on 'like buttons'. Whether other sites, like Google, can do this too, is immaterial. When people are logged into Faceboo

The "first day pop" is largely unavailable to the average person. You're right that underwriters price the IPO for this phenomenon, but it is to entice their clients to buy. The pop is from outsiders (you) buying from insiders. If you're no

There was sadly never a 12" Macbook Pro, but assuming you mean the Powerbook, and that it worked after a 2 meter drop, that's surprising & impressive.

Interesting. Just went and looked and was surprised to find that only one company is valued more than Apple in the US markets. Exxon Mobil (382B) > Apple (307B).

Likewise with your company blog. Put a prominent, descriptive link to the main site at the top. It's too common that I have to go to the address bar and remove "blog." to get to the main page. Most people won't do this.

I'm very happy to see Google offering the ngram counts for free download ( http://ngrams.googlelabs.com/datasets ), which I wasn't expecting, given their earlier web corpus data release on DVDs. Maybe we'll see an update on that front, too.
