Rhino can be used to run JS server-side atop the JVM, although maybe by this point they've switched to V8. I still find it hard to believe they built the whole thing in JS. If it really is so, well... that's actually really, really cool.

Hopefully once Apple "opens" up facetime, they will also enable calls outside the Facetime network. Otherwise the who's and what's of connecting to their registrar will probably be no better than the App Store situation today (eg, I'm sure

To make it easier to follow the post, do read through the slides that are linked in there. As an aside, I was dreading having to download a .pptx, but Office Live will display it with a slick web-based viewer. Nice.

I'm not sure what you mean by "mind," but I think you're missing the point. The article only hinted at the implications of this, but let me make it explicit. There is a huge distinction between the pre-lingually and post-lingually deaf. Sig

Some very interesting results -- I didn't expect the while loop in reverse to be so fast, and this is consistent across browsers. The presentation needs work, though. Would some charts be so difficult to make? Much easier to compare result

That really is quite pleasing to look at. And as the article mentions, it matches up against the type in the Ubuntu logo nicely. Take note of the 'u', the 'n' and the 'a'.

Sounds a bit backwards to me in some respects. Some companies ask, "What product can we build with this technology?" Good companies ask, "What technology does this product need?" Great companies ask, "What product will this customer buy?"

It's not about the language, it's about how you approach the problem. Maybe their rationale is that using C discourages the use of built-in constructs or libs that circumvent doing the real work. For this type of problem, it also hints at y

What you're saying has nothing to do with what I said. I will concede, however, that I missed the bitstream license, which grants some protection to independent implementations. But as others have said, that is no guarantee. http://www.web

You can ask for one. That's what I did. Unlimited data (with messaging) on my Droid for $55/mo. Reps might have to dig into their system for it, but it's there. Pretty good deal, esp on Verizon.

That's paranoia, unless you happen to be the general counsel for a Fortune 100. Because the biggest user of libvpx isn't you or me, it's going to be Google, and they're the juiciest target of any patent infringement lawsuit regarding the im

WiMax has enough bandwidth to be considered 4G, but the tech is closer to WiFi than traditional cellular. And the rebranding you're thinking of is Clear from Clearwire -- WiMax is just the radio standard that they're using. The other 4G wil

I don't think vp8 makes any claims about being patent-free (that's theora). I believe the libvpx license does shield you from patent claims (meaning google will take responsibility in case of any infringement). Note that this applies to lib
