Note: this makes sense on CI for a throwaway build, but not for a local dev clone. Blobless clones break or make painfully slow and expensive many local git operations.

People really want to have history locally so that "git blame" / GitLens IDE extension work locally.

This is super interesting, as I maintain a 1M commits / 10GB size repo at work, and I'm researching ways to have it cloned by the users faster. Basically for now I do a very similar thing manually, storing a "seed" repo

I think a big part of the problem is the way one typically "installs" a GH action: by copy-pasting something from README of the action. Let's have a look at a random official GH provided action: https://github.com&

FWIW, git now has options to ignore such commits. In a big codebase each big codemod sha should be added to the blame ignore file .git-blame-ignore-revs. It's supported by GitHub out of the box https://www.stefanjudis.com&#x

It's insane how complicated laws and taxes are, with layers of layers of new rules on top of old ones. Which often ends up with different courts not aligning "what is the tax for carrots" because of contradictory rules etc.

It might be fine for small repos, but for massive repos, blobless/treeless clones become unmanageable because many git operations become very slow. I added some further links. From my side, when you have non-trivial sized repo, on loca

From my experience, I heavily don't recommend blobless/treeless clones for local dev. They should only be used in CI for throwaway build & forget scenario. When you have blobless/treeless clone on local, it will fetch mis

As long as your test suite just finds and runs all files in a given folder (without needing to explicitly "enable" them in some index file), this should work: - create a NEW test file in `some/path/to/test.ext` (and
