Thanks for this writeup. I hope the author recovers soon. Some of the situations feel familiar to my experience in other companies, so here's some advice to younger folks, which took me some time to grasp: - Communication with the mana

I don't overuse LLMs for now; however when I have a complex problem that would require multiple of searches and dozens of tabs opened and reading through very long docs, asking LLM allows me to iterate order of magnitude faster. Things

MS has had their fork of git for years, and they contributed many performance features for monorepos since then to the mainline.

The article mentions Derick Stolee who dig the digging and shipped the necessary changes. If you're interested in git internals, shrinking git clone sizes locally and in CI etc, Derrick wrote some amazing blogs on GitHub blog: https:&

Paraphrasing meat of the article: - When you have multiple files in the repo which have the same trailing 16 characters in the repo path, git may wrongly calculate deltas, mixing up between those files. In here they had multiple CHANGELOG.m

Actually I did see a few long awaited improvements landing in gdocs lately (e.g. better markdown support, pageless mode). I think they didn't deliver much new features in early 2020s because they were busy with a big refactoring from D

It's the same in Europe as well. It's maddening. Every year I read of massively missing doctors, and at the same time, universities reject 90% of applicants or so because they don't have more places. So those doctors get &quo

ACDSee - wow, it's been a while since I saw this name! For the not familiar: it's been one of better photo viewer apps on Windows in early 2000s. At some point I learnt about IrfanView though and moved to it. (And then moved to Ma

This exactly where my distinction about "what the passkey actually is" is important: if it's only a password, then I assume I can do the recovery. Whereas if it's 2FA, I assume I can't.

Something that is not clear to me about passkeys and makes me uneasy to start using them: Are passkeys replacing passwords, 2FA, or both? What if I created a passkey on some device, lost that device, and my passkeys aren't cloud-backed
