Preventing DUI is a difficult problem. A much easier problem would be to prevent speeding. Put a GPS in every car that prevents the car from driving faster than the speed limit. All the technology exists, and this would doubtlessly save liv

This is great! It's incredibly awesome how much you can take away from Mario and still have a fun game. I love how the rectangle slants to show that you are moving. The game feels really responsive! (Macbook Air, Safari 7.0.2) The prog

The most amazing Postgres feature: Transactional schema changes. Create tables, alter tables, insert data, all inside a transaction. If any step fails, everything is rolled back! This blew my mind when I switched from MySQL (which doesn

Please explain why Dell is clearly violating the trademark. Just saying it's CLEAR (in capital letters) is not a sound argument.

Because division/multiplication by powers of two is a simple bitshift and can be implemented very easily on silicon. Division/multiplication by ten is complicated and needs many more gates and more time.

But what about "Fair Use"? Just owning a trademark doesn't give you the right to forbid other people using it. It's pretty clear from the wording that Dell is offering to install third party software. I'm pretty sur

Yes, reinventing the wheel is okay when you have a simple problem. But the article describes a complicated problem, and the presented solution delivers pretty poor results. In this specific case, I am pretty sure that looking for an existin

As I became more experienced, I started understanding abstract concepts better because I have already seen more real world things. I can now quicky think of my own examples in my head. (Aside: This is why I think you should work first, stud

Stopping distance is extremely important. Here are a few examples of typical car accidents: - a driver in foggy weather crashes into a traffic jam - a car crosses an intersection at a red light, is hit by a car from the other direction - ca

The goal isn't to "harm the employer", the goal is to expose their behavior. If exposing your "internal operations" harms you, the problem isn't person doing the exposing, the problem are the "internal ope

Your example has nothing to do with the actual code in the kernel. In the original code, the counters are passed by reference to a function. That means they need to be in memory anyway, right? The compiler can't pass the address of a r

No need to shit on Steve Jobs in order to praise Steven Wolfram. Both are good businessmen that built great products and successful companies. And they had great respect for one another. And it's not like Wolfram is giving stuff away f

Lot's of people suggesting to add explanatory comments. I don't think that's a good idea, it would be better to change the names of the variables: unsigned counter1 = 1; unsigned counter2 = 5; unsigned counter3

Most subway stations in Singapore have walls with doors between the train and the platform. The doors open only after the train arrived and stopped. (It's similar to elevator doors.) Makes it impossible to fall or jump on the tracks.

Not only that, but the time required to convert from UTF-8 to UTF-16 is negligible in relation to the time required to lay out the glyphs and draw them on screen. Premature optimisation indeed.
