On the rare occasions when I drink soda these days I just think, I would have been happier with water. Also if I'm gonna consume 300 calories I'd rather have a taco or something.

There is something to be said for pursuing things that have absolutely no practical application. There is nothing wrong with amusing one's self and perhaps even learning things along the way. I don't agree with the "I'm older and smarter t

I thought the same thing. I think this would be hard to do at scale and they offer quite a lot more features than most would need (sepia tone filter). I couldn't personally see paying for re service, but obviously it must be useful to oth

The question is interesting but the scenario doesn't sound like that much of a disaster to me. Maybe I'm the only one here who's worked in the insurance business though...?! A 5-person project with 2 months of work plus another 1.5 months

I think it is polite to communicate with the original author first. They may appreciate having somebody else in charge of package management. It's not uncommon for an app author to provide only source code and then some other person decide

I'd like to think that's try since I'm not in Silicon Valley. But sometimes it does feel like most of the deals that are made are due to personal connections - people who are running into each other at events, parties, coffee shops, etc.

I don't think in that context it represents an apology or even empathy. It means "allow me to politely tell you that you are full of shit!" Kinda like saying "have a nice day" to somebody who was just rude to you.

A "lifestyle company" is a dirty word to investors. For the owner though, it can be a very rewarding career with a fantastic salary. There's little ability for VCs to profit from it though, so you won't hear anybody who is going that rout

Yea I find investors are not primarily concerned about my happiness - except how my happiness may effect the business. It's not at all that they're heartless & they certainly don't want me to be unhappy. They just didn't give me money s

I saw a show where people make skeleton models and they used a type of bug to clean off the bones. Using certain chemicals would make the bones rubbery, whereas the bugs would leave a perfectly clean bone.

If you ever have to go to court, you'll see pretty quickly that emotional appeal is very powerful. Even though its not technically supposed to work that way - in reality it works because humans are emotional creatures - not robots.

It does feel like a startup strategy is that if you can just manage to get a large amount of free users - then you'll be able to figure out how to monetize it later. We all know that it works in exceptional cases. But many times when I see

I would take it to mean that they basically went too far past the gray area of "legitimate" SEO in any or all areas. Spammy links, low quality links on "link farm" sites, keyword abuse, etc.

Most of the rants against PHP don't have many specific technical reasons mentioned. Some do, but when you provide specific facts it's much easier to argue against them. So I think it's more convenient to stick with "PHP sucks." My theory

I've been a developer for over 20 years. For all of that time I've had to be a bit of a designer as well. I am, at my very best, an adequate designer. Most of the time my design is merely adequate and it takes me ages to do even that. So
