Wasn't Bell Labs a result of ATT's natural, sanctioned monopoly?

Yeah that's the vibe I got. More accurate headline: "ATT has been beneficiary of government action. ATT says it won't build new fiber to some dsl customers."

GP probably means the 2010s, during which the board milked the company instead of investing.

This doesn't smell quite right. For me, it wasn't uncommon to run in to NRE majors at college 15 years ago. (now maybe they all work at NRC, I'll give you that)

The slide I see says _revenue_. I think you have to consider cost of revenue too, and these EU fines affect that. So if the EU goes to fines being "% of worldwide turnover"... do the math

and the energy investment is so drastically lower that my brain can afford to finance the pre-revenue charges of rinsing, cutting the ends, and pulling off a paper towel, so I eat way more of them.

You're saying meta had ~$14 billion in revenue in 2023? I think you're missing a zero...

I'm a credit union member and... idk I've become disillusioned. Their products and rates are consistently worse than national banks. I won't feel like I'm sharing in anything. The execs seem to get good comp though.

Another way to think about this is in terms of how many marginal customers you get from being able to accept payments over the Web. 4% starts sounding less bad

Important clarification from reading tfa for a second: image _editing_. I can't believe Apple would sully their image with actual generation.

I'm no expert, but I think more than these things go into it (and I suspect way more than a 2x IPC bump, but that's guesswork). Also more cache and I'm sure more and faster memory.

> Get off the major cloud providers that charge insane egress fees. And run their own DCs? Cool, they'll just need a lot of upfront capital aaaaaand they're back in the "need money" boat. Except more so.

You're right--I don't read a specific "here's the onerous parts of Title II" bit in that article. I think his argument is that: 1. The problems that supporters say net neutrality would fix are fictitious (the tweet)

Feel pretty jaded about this after reading Ben Thompson on Title II: https://stratechery.com/2017/pro-neutrality-anti-title-ii/ Sidebar: I was 1000% pro-Title II last time this came up in 2015 and went through ht

I'd LOVE if there was a way to select the first Firefox Suggest result immediately instead of having to wade through search suggestions with down arrow. I _think_ Chrome has this?
