Not surprised. These type of regulations tend to help the big players a lot and just cause further concentration.

Yes for awhile. They have a virtual state of California they ride in and have more than a billion miles driving. Would be curious on accidents? Wish Waymo would share?

One thing that gets confused is that ads are a business model not a product or service.

To me the far bigger issue with Apple is them forcing you to agree to them collecting data on people you interact with to use their products in the US. I am fine with me agreeing for my data but should NOT be able to agree to them collectin

I think you will see the "hype" cycle last for a very, very long time. It is a very different thing when the computer can start doing things that only humans could do. Look at all the drama after Google did the Duplex demo. We hav

Totally agree but why on earth down voted? The first generation TPUs used 65536 very simple cores. In the end you have so many transistors you can fit and there are options on how to arrange and use. You might support very complex instructi

Overhyped? There are cars driving around Arizona without safety drivers as I type this. The end result of this advancement to our world is earth shattering. On the high compute cost. There is an aspect of that being true but we have als

One of the more silly articles on HN in a while. Waymo has cars as I type this driving around Arizona without safety drivers. People were freaked out by the Google demo of Duplex a couple of weeks ago as it was just too human sounding. Ca

Ultimately we will get self driving trucks and that will solve the problem. The question is not if but when. Waymo has cars driving around Arizona as I type this without safety drivers so maybe not too far off.

Completely disagree. It is NOT simply about the results but looking at the direction and a new approach. Ultimately it also comes down to the power required to get some task done. Also how can a paper submitted to NIPS be hype?

Great link. I will be curious to see if the Google, Jeff Dean, approach works in real life situations. What is interesting is you can use the TPUs and parallelize the approach. Ultimately it is about using less power to get some work don

No. Those are things you do by choice. Just do not chose to add the apps. When you put an ad directly in the OS you have gone somewhere new. So Microsoft putting ads directly in Windows to me is crossing a line that should not be cross.

Google WiFi would give you a more secure solution. Google has a hardware token in the Google WiFi locked to the stored image and that is locked to the running image. So things like this hack would be exposed. But then Google keeps them up

I do not think trying to slow down the competition will help the EU. Guess we will see. Think instead less product and services will be offered. If we look at the last 100+ years we can see Europe has fallen and continues to as the other c
