I don’t dream. When I was a child I remember dreams occurred but they did not contain any vivid representations of anything. Just abstract images. Nothing you could classify as vivid, let alone a representation of reality in any sense. The

Not OP. I don’t recall any dreams since childhood. If I had not experienced a few myself, I would have a hard time understanding what a dream even is. And my 10 or so dreams only had abstract images. Defo not like a movie or reality where y

Not the GP either I can’t do any of that. Sound is like images for me. An abstract concept you can reason about later but only experience in the moment.

My answer would have been. Hang on a second you never asked me to imagine a triangle WITH a color? What else has this triangle got? A flavor? A smell? A name? It would have never occurred to me it had a color in the first place before you

Do people without aphantasia actually visualize for loops, class hierarchies, design patterns, etc…? If not it would be easy to explain the result of the “visualize an apple” test. It’s just like visualizing a “for loop”. You’ve got a good

Absolutely agree. On Windows the equivalent would be MSVCRT which is sometimes shipped with the OS and sometimes not (depending on the versions involved). Sometimes you even need to worry about the CRT dependency with higher level languages

The ICJ is currently investigating a genocide case against Israel. So I guess we’ll find out… eventually. https://www.chathamhouse.org/2024/01/south-africas-genocide-...

That’s essentially what this project does. It creates the C code that the ObjC compiler would generate to “implement methods” or “send messages”. It’s somewhat doable by hand because Objc is a thin lawyer. Over 15 years ago I did stuff simi

It’s really Dracula vs Modernity. There’s nothing in the blog post that justifies the usage of the “Catholic” epithet. London is the seat of Anglican faith after all and using type writers and records are secular endeavors.

What people always forget when they make statements about hashing being one way is that these algorithms are designed to be incredibly fast. So if what you’re hashing has low entropy/randomness (say a password) then you can totally bru

Basically you can figure out the hash using the aforementioned timing attack. You can now perform an offline attack against the password that produced the hash. It’s like you hacked into the database and got the password hashes. Then, you f

Nobody uses iMessage over here. WhatsApp dominates. It’s always amusing to hear Americans complain about the lock-in of blue bubbles.

I never liked the design of Bitlocker - I always set a PIN. Wish it was a proper passphrase instead. The whole magic thing of decrypting things automatically seems like a total design flaw. - I often disable the hardware encryption support.

That’s the thing. No tracking occurs. And no personal data is collected or sent anywhere. It stays in your browser. In a way it’s like your browser history. The browser knows your interests and runs auctions for advertisers. And as per GDPR

In the long run Google probably does not care that much. They’ve been busy moving the tracking into the browser itself with the Protected Audience API. Technically they don’t track you personally and nobody has a database of your preference
