I've often been stumped why the notion of "strong AI" cannot be successfully refuted. On the one hand any analog system can be modeled to arbitrary precision by a digital one; and on the other hand it is also a fallacy to mistake a model fo

I run a .NET shop where we do pretty interesting stuff, and it is sooo hard to recruit decent .NET developers. The first step of my recruiting process is a simple, but moderately challenging algorithm in C# to complete at the candidate's le

Yup, worked on this very data problem (bad data sources, especially gov) for a long time, but gave up as I didn't see it as the road to riches. At the end I hit upon an AI solution I'm sure will work, but I never finished it, still on the

I hope this will be a model for all archaeological literature. It’s a real shame how controlling scholars sit on caches of the world’s cultural heritage not for years, not for decades, but for generations (in the case of the Oxyrhynchus pap

Don't confuse knowledge with understanding. Almost all good things exhibit diminishing returns. One lesson of history is to gain deeper understanding of human nature. That is a big key to understanding politics in any age. Plenty of people
