.... which is the problem here. The internet took decades. The iPhone didn't change anything this quickly either. We're seeing massive brain rot in many studies, no real world data that actual shows productivity gains. This adop

Even though I run it full time now personally; I still think Linux has massive problems something like Windows or macOS don't have: app development. You can't target a thing, you have to target all the things and bloat your app

Though my code complexity is far FAR from what you've been writing it has been a similar experience for me. There are a few footguns and a bug in chrono I still have to find the energy to report or fix; which has been causing a bi-year

Sqlite defaults in many ways perfectly fine, you get the foot guns when you need the performance. Read the article rather than commenting on HN because WAL is not default.

This language and its upsides (that come from the VM) really are not for application development in this manner. I'm sure you can make it work somehow but its like using a tank to get groceries. Reliability, scalability, aren't co

What version of Linux do you run for that? I've had issues getting Fedora or Ubuntu or Mint to work with my Xbox controller + Bluetooth card combo, somehow Bazzite doesn't have these issues even though its based on Fedora and I do

Is this like a computational + memory need? Otherwise one would think something like the framework desktop or a mac mini would be a better choice right?

Started out as a developer in the 10.4/10.5 days. Mostly coz I was messing around with trying to get stuff to run in a semi-darkmode :) and theming things. Messing about in the system folder wasn't as complicated back then

> No, it is not the entire point. No one is really doubting whether you can write a driver in Rust, C++ or Swift. The whole experiment is whether you can slowly move in to existing mature kernel subsystems without being too disruptive. W

This again gets back to the main point which you keep misrepresenting. This has nothing to do with a thick skin, this is a core subsystem maintainer outright saying they won't support R4L, which means its dead.

Part of me feels like something like Redox isn't exactly worthit. Now I hope the project succeeds in whatever goals they have, and honestly where they've gotten to is impressive; what I mean to say is that I think it would be far

Keep in mind that it takes at least 3 months to produce an M4, and the design has been finalized long before that. So most likely yes

This is a flawed comparison in many ways. As you might not understand IE was problematic because of its massive install base and everyone only, and only writing their websites for chrome oh wait. Typo'd there, meant IE.

Sorry I never ended up replying. You are correct, in protobuf you have field numbers ( and I have to admit what I commented has been a number of years ago by now my knowledge is crusty ). Usually when doing this type of work, as I was doing

SQLite performance is kinda nutty. My design of the DB at the time was probably poor (but I was 15 so cut me some slack :D) but I made an app that had to run on iPod Touches at the time, so we could use the accelerometer for physics class i

You can decode protobuf in the same way, I've written several decoders in the past that don't rely on an external schema. There are some types you can't always decode with a 100% confidence, but then again JSON or something l

Calling vaping safer without there being any good evidence for that is quite a stretch. However I despise this pure resource waste. Can we just stop that instead while we investigate the effects of inhaling burning copper and plastic?

Except that the GC makes it exactly not viable for games and its one of the biggest problems Unity devs run into. I agree it's a great language, but its not a do it all.

The offering from Hetzner I find especially appealing are the consumer grade hardware ones. No I wouldn't host business critical services on one, but I don't have those so easy win for me price wise.
