You have to go back almost 20 years to understand the relationship between the ASF and the Java community. Java at the time was positioned to be a core web technology (originally as applets, then as as backend tech via J2EE) and Apache was

Best headset for sitting is a inside-out, tethered VR headset. Until recently, the Oculus Rift S would be a great pick for that. I don't yet have an HP Reverb G2, but I expect good things out of that headset. The HTC Cosmos would also

As the others noted, those platforms are all deprecated now. Even when they weren't, they didn't give anywhere near the experience of other headsets. [I've had the Google cardboard, DayDream and the Samsung Gear headsets.]

I have owned about a dozen VR headsets at this point, including the Quest (not the Quest 2) and the Vive Index. The Index is fantastic, but it's difficult to compare to the Quest which is truly in a category of its own. For headsets, t

One of my favorite games, Elite Dangerous, has a fairly to-scale representation of the milky way in it: 400 billion stars. One of my favorite things is to wander around the galaxy in the galaxy-map mode in VR in that game.

I like the differentiation that engineering is programming integrated over time. [1] To be a programmer you need the direct hard skills of coding literacy, analytical and logical thinking, combined with enough grit and creativity to see a p

I am not an employment lawyer, but I suspect if the employer gives you a crazy range, it's a violation and could be reported. The law does clarify it's a range and doesn't need to include bonuses or equity estimates. And to b

I'm legit confused on what you're trying to say. Are you saying tech stacks are a bad thing? Or that corporate investment or connection to a tech stack is a bad thing? What's your proposed solution or alternative? One thing I

Not strictly. At this stage of the studio, we are orienting to a more "senior" team, but that basically means senior+. We're not particular about titles as it's still a small, flat team. As the team grows, we'll gai

I agree. We recently got rid of our more traditional "tech screen" and replaced it with a 90 minute realistic programming interview. We have 3 tests we give depending on the role (game dev, backend, or SRE). The tests replicate ty
