No, a payment processor is exactly what they are in this case. Consider what Apple is attempting to do to Amazon's Kindle service: users can purchase Kindle ebooks directly in-app but Apple takes a 30% cut of the payment. Amazon still hosts

Stealth mode is no fun. Though it may make sense when you have a strategic partnership that requires silence until release. Of course, that's a very different kind of startup than most of the "my web 2.0 of the day" ventures often touting s

Because this press release also updates and clarifies enforcement of in-app purchases as well. The current approach taken by the Kindle app, that is, linking to the Amazon web Kindle store for purchases, will no longer be allowed by Apple.

Several new tablets have been announced. Moreover, the lack of a subscription API didn't stop the mentioned services from creating iPad apps to begin with. Those services are all successful independent of their iOS app. They have no reason

And with that, Apple just gave up the content app space to Android. Do you think the Economist, the Financial Times, Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, Rdio and others are really going to hand over 30% of their subscriber revenue?

Reminds me of Sony in the consumer electronic space. They've lost large leads in television and music player industries due to the same attitude.

Clearly legal, because you're a lawyer? Don't be too surprised if this lands Apple in court eventually. Leveraging their OS to disrupt competitors in other business markets is the exact sort of behavior that got Microsoft in trouble with Ne

First off, if you trace the article to its source, you'll end up on a WSJ article that says something slightly different: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405274870477560457612... As far as we know, Apple has not directly set a dead

Splitting at least 50% with the studios or labels is pretty standard. It's one reason why the Apple 30% app store tax makes no sense for some businesses (ebooks, vod, music).

It doesn't. It would mean removing a link to the Amazon store, which is stupid. Amazon shouldn't budge on this one. Apple needs to back down.

One reason I've been hesitant to use Evernote is that I don't want to put a lot of valuable information into a service that could easily disappear. I'd actually be more comfortable with Evernote if they charged more because then I'd beli

Several years ago you already saw large number of MacBooks (well, PowerBooks at the time) at tech conferences. IMHO it really was the Unix + nice UI that attracted many developers. It certainly got me.
