I built a dozen or so educational apps. I started each on iOS then have ported a few to Android and Windows Phone. It hasn't yet been a great financial success, but it is almost entirely passive income now. Updating apps for UI changes

Funny. My son's Cub Scout pack worked with a local homeless group and the top requested things they packed in gift bags for them were cheap flashlights and tube socks. They use the socks for everything.

Yep. Lost 3 hours of writing once. No chance of recovery apparently. Now I've learned to not edit existing notes on mobile devices if I can avoid it. Copy the note to a new one and edit that so I have a backup.

Yes. I signed up in-app today (with a fake phone number) and that's a direct quote from the app. No idea on the downvotes. I guess because, like I said, telling users you hash the phone numbers doesn't matter if you're using

I'm sure Robert Khoo has been begging him to do something like this, but that doesn't make it any less sincere.

Unless it's changed recently, the phone number is user-supplied and I'm not sure if it's verified at all. They do claim that the phone number "will be stored as unique mathematical representations (or 'hashes')

I once wrote a quick Java program that recorded our project's build output (about 5 minute's worth at the time) and captured the time between each line of the output. Then it could play back the build output at the same pace. I co

I got two from the first batch - one from each supplier. One runs 24x7 at home as XBMC (which is little-used by the family), a VPN server, a small file server, and to record audio from a couple radio shows I like to timeshift. The other is

Georgia Tech had a lab of CDC 721 terminals and used PLATO for at least one class. It always felt weirdly futuristic (or Hollywood fake) for a seemingly "dumb" terminal to switch into a graphical touchscreen mode. I wish we'd

I think the outrage isn't that we (Americans) did it. The pros know we spy on everything we can, all the time. But the outrage is that now there are newspapers all over the world telling John Q. Public (Johan Q. Public?) what happened.

"...the iPad Mini probably somewhat reduced the demand for the Touch" The $229 / $299 price reduced the demand for the Touch. I'm surprised they haven't found a way to get a sub-$200 Touch.

I live in a pretty suburban area in Florida. A trip to Target, Walmart, Sam's Club, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. costs me about half a gallon of gas ($1.60 at the moment) and an hour of my time. Then there's the risk that they either d
