I would posit that part of the reason behind differences in illusory superiority are due to a difference in how you measure narcissism between cultures. You can't use the same test in a Western culture as you would an Eastern culture.

What exactly are "Westerners" and what exactly are "Asian cultures" in the context of the research you speak of?

Narcissism is the very definition of a first-world problem. As a personality style, it's far more prevalent in advanced societies. Once you get beyond mere survival, you start seeking self-actualization, which means people start trying

The thing is that the literature isn't clear on there being a single agreed-upon definition of psychopathy. The PCL-R test certainly has been successful in a criminal setting. In fact, that's its chief disadvantage: it's too

Oh no, I agree completely. Here's the question that's on my mind though: does the fact that someone's brain works the same way as a serial killer mean that they'll act the same way themselves? Or are there millions of Te

This is a very good point. Generally, there's some element of nature and some element of nurture in a person's development. I mean you take two identical twins who are separated from birth and find that they're very similar i

It's great that you point this out. Personality styles happen along a spectrum. You have some people who fit in well in society and do good things. Then you have some borderline cases where people can minimally fit into society albeit

"Psycopath" has no clinical meaning. The closest equivalent is Antisocial Personality disorder. In extreme cases, an antisocial can be a Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer, but that's not always the case. It's worth pointing ou

I think this has more to do with the types of companies that outsource to India. They're not doing it because they view India as a source of talented programmers. They're doing it because they view India as a large source of cheap

I think what's more likely is that MySQL goes the way of Hudson/Jenkins. Oracle strangles the open source community and pushes people to use a fork of the original software. Oracle's in the database business, and I just don&#

The last bullet point strikes me as incredibly odd. No ratings? How will managers determine raises and bonuses if they don't have a rating to determine whether the employee is meeting expectations or not?

I really like the way github is doing this. I'm irritated by the way other sites (linkedin, quora) automatically assume I must want their emails every X interval. I like that with github I can choose how frequently I get emails and t

You're missing the point. The purpose of this post was to illustrate how silly little differences in coding style cause lots of unnecessary work. The agnostic's version was the best in this illustration because they knew what the

I seriously doubt that the problem here is that Facebook is trying to make you a cog in their wheel (at least not with respect to the coding puzzle). Rather, I think it's just because they feel that requiring this work will lead to bet

I think the problem is that some ads are so heavy-weight. I kind of wish there were an ad-block tool that would only block ads that are too large (data-wise) or that take too long to load.
