Minecraft (Java Edition) is probably the most notable game like this. It’s continued to be the same game with few engine changes/rewrites from the single dev basement project up until the present day dedicated sub company in Microsoft.

“Federally publishing” books seems like it would be left to the lowest bidder and the results would be terrible. I took a government class recently that used one of the mentioned open textbooks and it was great.

This is definitely possible with things like a Flipper Zero, but I doubt adding the cloned card to Apple Wallet is possible on iPhones (though I imagine Androids have no such restriction)

In my experience with man overboard drills clock faces are used as you describe. Port/starboard is only for low precision things.
