Thankfully for me, there are plenty of infrastructure roles where I’m at; however, they are insanely competitive. I made a final with one company, and they were interviewing eight people for the role. Eight! For one opening… those are not f

Are you the David V from Meta, who had bytelab.codes? I recently discovered that blog, and was very excited by the content, only to find he last updated in 2022. Either way, I’m excited to see your site, too! I love finding well-written ker

If you scroll a bit further, you’ll see there are actually 4 forms for the number 0. Of course, I have no idea why.

I’ll never forgive them for the spyware they defaulted to on in their desktop stuff. It wasn’t the worst thing in the world, but they’re also the only major distro to ever do it, so Ubuntu (and Canonical as a whole) can get fucked, imo.

Idk if this is a serious question, but you just turn on console access in the cloud provider. It’s super easy. Same concept as VMWare. It’s possible that not all cloud providers do that, I suppose.

Omfg, if that’s not the truest statement I’ve read on here… this has been a major issue at the last several places I’ve worked.

How would you manage a Confluence document via git?

Confluence 100% supports the situation you’ve described. The way I’m reading this is that you need to have a publishing workflow, or a document approval workflow, which Confluence can do. At one of my jobs, we wrote it with CQL.

Are we talking about Confluence from Atlassian’s login? What’s so bad about it? It’s usually tied to your SSO provider, so you just have to sign in to your work account. In the server days, it was connected to your AD/LDAP password. I

I think RSIs come from muscular imbalances, and tightness. It’s not just repeating the same motion, but that motion being almost uniquely how those muscles engage. You climb, so your forearm muscles are exercised on both sides. I’m guessing

Have you tried earplugs like Loop or Eargasm? I’ve considered them for a while, but never pulled the trigger. Reddit seemed to prefer Loops to Eargasms. I actually find foam earplugs make voices easier to hear. I can have conversations duri

What impact could this have on the value of cesium? Some time ago, I remember reading about cesium’s importance to tech, particularly for atomic clocks. It was in an article about the potential discovery of a cesium mine that might have hug

This nonsense of quoting the “profound thought” you’re about to read in the next paragraph is the most annoying stylistic choice to emerge from the internet. I didn’t finish the article because of its overuse.

In my experience, the email retention policy is guided by whatever regulations with which the company has to comply. I’ve worked at places with insanely long retention policies because of that.

They’re not. They take all the funding away, push for our tax money to go toward things that don’t help the overwhelming majority of citizens (and probably a similar number actively disagree with where taxes go, like bombing other countries

I get the sense it isn’t possible. “What do I have to hide?” “Who would target me?” “I have nothing worth stealing.” Sadly, all those are common replies to what you’re saying needs more awareness.

It seems reasonable when you consider TCO, but you still have to pay 100% up front. Not everyone can drop $2k on a laptop, most people don’t need to.
