I second this. Rough sketch: detect a text input I'm tying in, add a little button that says "sign and send", which when clicked adds a signature to the message and submits. If the extension sees this on a forum, verify the s

Having to anticipate how the robot will screw up and reorganize your life based around that is a big issue. It's a big enough reason for people to decide they need to give up a dog they love, and people love dogs a lot more than they l

It's important to note that we know the limitations of SVMs because of the theory. That's usually what a theory provides. There are also a few methods, like boosting, that are purely the result of theory.

Give one specific example of a widespread modern invention that did not require any understanding to create. You personally can use a tool without understanding how it's made, but you seem to claim the tools are invented without anyone

I agree. As someone who has done mathematics research, and studied on the purest end of the math spectrum, it's so aggravating to hear engineers who "took BOTH differential equations classes" explain how math should be when t

Another aspect, one that I've encountered many times, is that even when someone has to implement the idea from scratch, they don't work to understand it and instead just translate pseudocode. I once had an interview where I was as

The "2 random choices" idea also shows up as a good idea in other settings, such as load balancing for hashing. I wrote a writeup[1], but if you google "power of two random choices" you'll see a lot of literature on

Doesn't this (and by extension, Curch-Turing) rely on the assumption that the universe is discrete? Provided it were not, and one were able to harness infinite precision, one could presumably make a new symbolic system based on it. Not

I agree with you here, and have no idea what the OP is talking about. In Math and ML, TeX is so ingrained in the culture that there are _jokes_ based on TeX puns. (Where do mathematicians go for a rational rack of ribs? The \mathbb Q)

From my experience, most ML researchers are in your camp. They are primarily interested in the ML, and good (not-just-in-your-head) visualizations are at best icing on the cake of their understanding.

I sure hope this catches on, but we should all be aware of the hurdles: - Little incentive for researchers to do this beyond their own good will. - Most ML researchers are bad writers, and it's unlikely that the editing team will do th
