A fairer comparison would be that in that universe the url would be: https://github.com/4e4e9133-bcdb-45b9-8dfe-9e951846e3c6 or even urn:uuid:4e4e9133-bcdb-45b9-8dfe-9e951846e3c6 with the right infrastructure.

Yes, but don't forget that you can't compose `next` based iterators. That might be a small limitation, but it means that you can't do something like. ```js let pipelineA = map(i => i+1); // or makeComplexPi

The difference is in the way that the transformations compose. Iterators are generic over some iterable type `U` in `E, R, T: Iterator<E, R, U|T>, U: Iterable<E>` that they either directly or indirectly capture some nested Itera

Fortran would at least have a reliable compiler.

It matters plenty if your production system goes down because of bugs caused by miscompilation of your js runtime. This level of instability doesn't uphold the social contract that a 1.0 implies.

Because the compiler is extremely unfinished and buggy. With a codebase this size theres a real chance of having miscompilations in there. What's the points of running a safe language on broken infrastructure, it's garbage in garb

Despite the 1.0 release tag, given that it's written in Zig, which is super duper Alpha, I'd trust it only as far as I can throw a floppy with its source code.

Isn't memory always proportional to element size, unless you just look at indexes and pretend that element storage is free?

The only thing worse than Zigs immature compiler is the immature community.

Compilation speed is completely irrelevant if your codebase is so complex that you can't get it correct. rm -rf src Extremely fast and arguably safer than a broken compiler.

In theory maybe, but after watching Andrew Kelleys latest talks I don't get the feeling that the Zig implementation is build for readability and correctness, but an experiment for exploring the design space of data-driven-design in com

The switch to the Zig implementation fixed a ton of bugs, but introduced way more new ones. I've used it in anger for almost a year and simply gave up at some point and switched to Rust because of the buggy build-ins and broken compile

Fair critique, but shouldn't strings be immutable anyways? Once you bring editing into play, you'll probably either want something like a rope or some CRDT and then you have more effective means of tracking positions, than manual

I would argue that the inline way of annotating things in XML is actually ok-ish if one absolutely needs human edit-ability, but otherwise bad design. {text: "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod

It's pure rent-seeking behaviour of entrenched organisations. They outsource a lot of their stuff to India, and ask for a 3500$ fee in return to host it open-access, or ask everyone who wants to see it 50-90$ but then they'll publ

Maglevs are great though when combined with build-in solar. They become energy positive and can replace entire power plants in terms of capacity even on short-ish routes. Solar roadways are a crappy idea because asphalt and solar panels hav

Sadly jupyter is a very different experience to Pluto. The latter is similar to ObservableHQ (it even reuses part of the runtime afaik). So you don't have to manually evaluate cells, but they are evaluated based on the computations dat

There are (large) parties in Germany that will never allow for a general tempo limit. Introducing it at least for ICE would at least reduce traffic CO2 from the most inefficient modes of travel (high speed ICE).

Entschuldigung, wir fahren gerne schnell! But I kinda agree, as a german I feel like we should have a universal tempo limit of 130kmh. The only reason I can see to stay unlimited would be as a policy measure for quicker EV transition, e.g.
