Jquery DOES offset bad lines of code. Writing your own ajax framework or css selectors, probably not a great idea. using jquery, offset your bad LOC.. it's not as silly as it seems.

My Dad is an architect in a small town (40k pop) and services much of rural south eastern ohio. He almost never sits at a computer during the day, and most of his drafting is done by draftsmen on datacad. I'd be happy to privately give you

Businesses pay rent at a mall, and in turn they get to decorate the place how they want (presumably, not with ads for other stores inside). It's still an interesting problem, and the mall analogy is a good one. Would bands pay if there wer

Well, the USPS won't sell mailing lists (AFAIK), but lots of other places do (SalesGenie is one.. but not cheap) Sourcing/spidering phone books, or chambers of commerce for specific towns is another method if you have more time than cash.

So, that brings up another good point. StackOverflow, like answers.OnStartups was leveraged from an already burgeoning community, and quickly got other communities involved. With something grassroots, are you stuck in a chicken and egg pr

That's one of the biggest complaints I had from "Guy A" who looked at it. There was no decent way to 1) Interface with the content with his current site 2) port reputation two ways from his existing community.

Well, they're already profitable. If you're looking at a year or more, I'd agree, it's crazy; but they're asking "how do I make the jump, and be profitable full-time".

Cool. I wasn't suggesting that you be irresponsible with your credit, especially given that it's not just _you_ taking the risk. But clearly you've though through your options, that's all I was getting at. That what you'd make, even in y

I haven't. Right now, we're trying to figure it out. We work with many FQDNs. I've been talking to a local guy who says that in bulk I could get IPs for $3/mo at his datacenter. The price is good, but I'm then back to managing hardware,

Customer Support is good. Functionality is pretty meh. You have no SSH, no SCP, no gzip. We host on EC2 and it's been really cost effective, and everything that we've needed EXCEPT multiple IPs to an instance. each instance can only have

Yeah, I know, but you can only attach one per instance, so the effective cost per elastic ip per month is 1 small instance.

Thanks! I did lose points for this w/o clarifying.. I run multiple sites on a single instance (we're a webhost) We don't do shopping carts/ssl for our clients, because that would cost 1 - Small Instance/month, which is cost-prohibitive for
