Ok, I'm going to try to help you out a little bit here with what I went through. I left school after the 11th grade for what appear to be the exact same reasons. In the twelfth grade, I was 'homeschooled', I did a lot of independent study

My forms typically go only a few days before they start getting form submission spam. There are lots of captchas to implement in a couple of hours, and people are used to filling them out. It seems like a no-brainer to me.

I think that a greasemonkey script could probably fish out and change the color back to browser default, since greasemonkey fires on DOMContentLoaded.

I've worked with both jWYSIWYG and WYMeditor and landed on TinyMCE. Doing cross-browser WYSIWYG is hard, and starting over always sounds like a good idea, but FCKEditor and TinyMCE both have years over these.

I got a local merchant account (huntington national bank), which is flexible, and I get a choice of gateways (we chose authorize.net). Great service at both the merchant account and gateway level, also pretty good rates.

This is a very cool idea. I'd love to see more open source hardware/software combo projects, and this is a great way to kickstart that.

This is _great_ took 5 minutes to setup and configure. I am very happy with this. Honestly, I'm not positive that I'd pay for this, with other freely available tools around, but it is very good. Great work.

Testimonials are mostly real (from what I know), exchange free copies for testimonials (and use the good ones); use 'personal' testimonials over again, rather than 'product specific' testimonials. Those are just a couple tricks.

Personally, I don't. I've worked very closely with someone who does (managing their campaigns and websites) Here's what I know. Pick a niche, be an expert, outsource everything but the content creation, and spend your efforts selling. Pick

As per a post on Joel on Software, I've started using PasswordSafe (SWT..the java one) on all my machines, and sync the datbase with dropbox. It's great.

That's pretty fair, but why not just use a windows server, you can get them cheap, and you can even get windows VPS at a pretty reasonable price. That being said, fogbugz does use mono for any *nix installs (for some things)

Send it to sports center/ESPN. Send it to Sports Illustrated. Send it to your local papers, AP, etc. It's not that this is a bad idea, poorly implemented, or poorly designed, it's fine. It just has limited audience and lifespan. Slap so

While he might be right, it's still not practical to group things in this way, and when working on a project with more than one person, you should always document things correctly etc. If not, it will allow what he calls 'mediocre' program

Just a note, if you don't want a letter from the NFL; Take _your_ mentions of 'super bowl' off. They've even cracked down on some local bars and such that advertise 'watch the super bowl here' to make them say 'watch the big game here'. It

Ok, So; I posted on monday about mytwitternotebook, an app I made. Originally, I made it so that you signed up with an openID, and then put in your twitter username, and then got a verification DM, and then verified. _Nobody_ understood it.

I've completely changed this, to use the twitter auth API instead of a stupid Verify scheme. It was too confusing.

Ah! Thanks..I'm not seeing what caused you not to get the message, I ran over my API limit though. I reworked the contact page and the direct message thing, so you don't get a million messages if there is a mistake.

Find an insurance agent. They are experts, and contrary to some beliefs, it's not cheaper to go directly to the insuring company. They will work to find out what's best for _you_.

Here is the most general thoughts I have on the subject: If your site NEEDS users to get users, you need a soft launch where you do whatever you can to get users in and keep them, then you have a bigger launch where you can say "Look what w
