I had people that got blocked on their fully working Xiaomi phones in US (and which still work when they roam on a foreign SIM card) in ~2024 when AT&T decided to block off all "unknown" phones. So I'm not sure why do you

Yeah, I don't think there's much you can do from software side there - those kind of Android devices just end up unusable due to I/O performance degradation and it's hard to keep them running.

As of 2025 both AT&T and Verizon (plus, as a downstream their MVNOs) have a whitelist of allowed phone models and block connection of other phones even if they're compatible with the network. See https://www.att.com/

Yeah, then copying the files most likely moved them to different part of storage and it improved performance again. Sadly that's a common plague for cheaper Android hardware - after enough writes the flash performance drops off a cliff

I don't quite understand what you're arguing here. I'm merely saying that the root cause was misidentified - the performance degradation didn't happen due to fragmentation, but because the flash storage was degraded to t

That's much more likely flash degradation than actual fragmentation. Did you use cheap tablets with eMMC storage?

Well you'll need to talk to your monopolistic carriers then. US mobile innovation is dead for the foreseeable future due to them, all new innovation is happening in China and other SE Asian markets. You just need to be a good consumer

It's absolutely not inevitable since even opensource operating systems can work on providing attestation systems that aren't owned by big corporations and serve the user. But just like with something like secure boot, they're

A lot of these pushes for attestation are coming from regulators and security audits though.

Use the same people who are now maintaining your complex AWS setup. It's not like that doesn't need maintenance or oncall.

A lot of people here have built their whole professional careers around knowing AWS and deploying to it. Moving away is an existential issue for them - this is why there's such pushback. A huge % of new developer and devops generation

The fun part is that people whining about not being able to raise common capital and operate across whole EU due to regulation tend to also be the most rabid opposers of any kind of common regulation that would bring whole EU into alignment

Often yes, but I think we're seeing for years now that in US at least, the GDP numbers for a few years don't really match the living standard as felt by the population. That makes it a less than useful metric for purposes of measu
